World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items are a method to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.
Upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's base stats increase when it is upgraded. This is the sum of all of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the number of perks that need to be altered to upgrade an item.
The level of an item is a widely used measure of power, and is visible on all item tooltips. It is also used to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear as PvP is restricted at lower levels. Players can see their average level of items on their character sheet.
Using the item level will allow players to compare the power of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's an indicator of the item's damage and quality. Comparing items from a vendor's stock can be done using the item level.
The item level can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the full description of the item, including its value. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.
There are many theories about how the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula that calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item. This can result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is often very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.
However, this isn't the only factor that can affect an item's ilvl since the size of the area the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, for instance by adding an additional level to its haste or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.
Item Stats
Stats on an item are a significant component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in different ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stats of a base weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modifications which are then enhanced by the player's level.
The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines the upgrade cost. For instance, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, while items with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.
Affixes can also be used to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item upgrading by the player, and come in a variety of sizes and shapes. The affixes are used to provide items with extra damage, special abilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to differentiate them by adding a name.
All affixes are being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. This will cost a certain amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges as with other rerolling methods.
In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which stats to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However every item will have at least one stat within the same range, unless it's an exclusive item, or the item is a God Roll from a raid boss.
Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll attaches, or select which stats to enhance. As with the base equipment, it would have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats simultaneously.
Item Luck
The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the likelihood of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the strength of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is especially advantageous in the early game, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.
Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability that increases with each item level and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of the item up to 140.
Moreover there are certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items are available from the shop or constructed using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their success rate or prevent themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.
When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased and the probability of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..
The Luck of an item upgrading may affect the success of an upgrade. All items have an average success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases that chance by 5percent.
Note that item upgrades are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects could be obstructed by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
