Path of Exile Item Upgrading

Components
Upgrade components can make your armour and weapons better. You can locate them through destroying enemies, buying them from karma sellers or finding them in items-spheres. You can also get them from equipment that contains the components or by using high-tier salvage kits such as Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components cannot be destroyed when you remove them from the item.
The main function of upgrade components is to allow an item to be upgraded, however, they also serve other functions. They can be stacked in order to increase the level or the amount of experience gained by upgrading weapons or gear. They can also be made to provide extra bonuses. A glyph that is crafted can boost the chance of upgrading its target, and boost upgrades increase the attack or defense capabilities of weapons.
Selecting an upgrade template in the GUI will let you bind it to an item. It will display a list of upgrade item components that the item can be upgraded to. You can also use the workbench for selecting an upgrade template. In either case, an item will be upgraded after enough upgrade components have been gathered.
Each component has its own experience multiplier that affects the amount of experience an item receives when it is upgraded with that component. For instance, organic components have a a higher experience multiplier than mechanical ones. It is recommended to upgrade the organic components first, until you reach the next level in the weapon or equipment, then switch to mechanical upgrades.
Each item has an upgrade maximum number that is available for. The number of upgrades is determined by the rank that can be upgraded and the type of upgrade available to the upgradeable item. The most powerful upgrade is a weapon that is 10th level. The most popular weapon upgrade is a gun of tier 6 and an armor upgrade for tier 5.
Sets
A set is a collection of items which share a bonus. Each item in the set can be upgraded at least once and the upgrade will increase the guaranteed bonuses. The first time you upgrade an item, its initial stat will be +1. In subsequent upgrades the primary stats will be boosted a little more (for instance, +1 to 12+/13+/14+), and each time you upgrade the item with an additional stats is increased randomly.

Rerolling
A player is able to reroll any item acquired in the game if they have enough tokens.
