All terrain strollers help you instill a enthusiasm for nature in your child. We assess ease of use and maneuverability, including the ability to access the basket to engage brakes, insert and remove the infant seat (where applicable).
The Best Overall Stroller
If you intend to use a stroller to carry your child for many years, it should do more than just get them from A to B. Strollers grow faster than rabbits. The purchase of a stroller that can handle all your family's outings is a wise choice.
The Nuna MIXX Next can do everything and more: It works from birth, thanks to a baby-friendly flat recline, features a compact fold to make it easy to store and can roll smoothly over grass, sidewalks and cobblestone. The light PIPA Urbn car seat is also available as an entire travel solution. It's more expensive than our other options but our test-driver said it was well worth the cost as it's strong and able to effortlessly handle even the roughest of outings.
For a light stroller that can also handle some rugged terrain, look for three-wheelers. The Thule Shine was previously a winner of this category. It's a bit more costly than our other choices, but it feels solid, and comes with a variety of features (car seat compatible! dual cup holders!) that make it a worthwhile investment. It can also be folded to fit into the overhead bin of an airplane making it an ideal option for families who travel a lot.
Wendy Schmitz, Senior Review Editor at Baby Gear Reviews, has been reviewing strollers for more than two year. She along with the rest of our team of product testers test each stroller by pushing, running forward, folding and lifting them to test their performance, comfort and usability. All of them are mothers and understand the importance of a good stroller for daily use and family outings. This year, we expanded our test pool to include five parenting and stroller experts: Lisa Trofe, executive director of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association; Kyleyn Gosewisch, customer care specialist at strolleria, a retail store focused on strollers; Marielle Marquez, pediatric occupational therapy therapist; Holly Choi, cofounder and co-owner of Safe Beginnings First Aid, an organization that provides child safety tools and Sarah Huff, senior manager of community and customer service at BabyQuip, an infant stroller all terrain (https://telegra.ph/5-clarifications-on-stroller-all-terrain-07-25) and baby equipment rental business.
The BOB Sport Utility
The BOB Sport Utility is the ideal stroller for parents who want to get away from the main roads and get some exercise. This jogging stroller features pneumatic knobby tires that are perfect for trail runs, and hand brakes that let you control the downhills. It also boasts a state-of-the-art suspension system and a two-step folding design and a huge cargo basket. You can even use it with an infant car seat if you buy the right adapters.
The biggest drawback of this jogging stroller is its weight and size folded. It weighs 25lbs and folds to 17,850 cubic inches, which is the average for this category of strollers. The size of its footprint makes it unsuitable for tight turns and small trunk spaces. However, it does have small handles at the back of the storage bin that can be pulled to fold the stroller into a compact, flat position.
Despite its size, this stroller is easy to maneuver. Its front wheel has an locking mechanism that lets you switch it between normal and locked jogging mode. The handlebar is adjustable in height to accommodate different heights of parents. It comes with a spacious seat that can be retracted to nearly flat, and a large vinyl peekaboo window.
Another major benefit is the Sport Utility's outstanding quality that earned it a 9 of 10 in this measurement. It has a thick frame made of aluminum with tight connections, no rough edges, and no weak stitching. It also has adjustable dampers which aid in smooth rolling performance.
Like the other BOB strollers reviewed in this review the Sport Utility has optional car seat adapters that allow you to use it with a variety of infant car seats. It took us 5:24 minutes during our tests to assemble the stroller from packing it up to getting it ready to go. It was simple enough to complete, however you'll need an Philips head screwdriver to complete the task. The instruction manual is well-organized and clear, however it's a good idea to keep one in your case.
The Baby Trend Expedition
This jogger is designed with safety, style and convenience as its main goals. It has a tray for parents that has two cup holders and covered storage, and the child tray which is able to swing away and includes two cup holders. The adjustable canopy, with its peek-a-boo windows and a wide ergonomically-designed handle, offer comfort to both parents. The front wheel lockable can be locked while strolling, and locked for jogging. The large storage basket is able to hold essential travel items.
Consumer Reports' Strollers test program confirms that the Baby Trend Expedition Jogger is an excellent value for the price and has higher scores than its competition across several categories. The 5-point harness folds, unfolds backrest, adjusting the backrest, engaging wheel brakes, and infant car seat installation and removal (only compatible models) are all included. It has a simple design with a one-handed recline that's deep enough for napping. The canopy cover that has ratcheting can be difficult. It also takes almost 8 minutes to set up, and the instructions are confusing, with several languages and confusing illustrations.
The only downside to this stroller is the lack of suspension. This means that the ride could be more bumpy than other all-terrain strollers. This can make it more uncomfortable for toddlers, especially when they're on the close to having a nap. The air-filled wheels are nice but they don't provide as much cushioning as the rubber tires that are found on more expensive strollers.
This is an excellent option for those who don't exercise often but still need to be able to move easily across grass or gravel without worrying about obstructions like curbs or other obstacles. It's also a great choice for families with a limited space as it folds up into a compact unit. It is lighter than most of the other joggers we've tried and fits in spaces that some full-size strollers won't.
It's also easier to move and lift than the bulkier joggers that we have tested. This is crucial if it's something you lift in and out of your trunk frequently or if you're constantly in motion.
The Nipper Sport V4
If you're looking for the best jogger for any terrain look no further than the Nipper Sport V4. The latest version of Out 'n' About's three-wheeled running stroller is specifically designed for jogging and features large pneumatic 16 alloy tyres that can withstand the roughest paths and tracks. The Nipper is also light and compact, making it easy to fold and move.
This pushchair has a number of features that make it suitable to tackle any type of terrain buggy that include front suspension and the handlebar brake. It also comes with an adjustable recline seat with a removable quilted seat liner, as well as the five-point safety harness and a hinged bumper bar. It's also compatible with travel systems that allows you to use it with the Cybex, Maxi-Cosi, or Be-Safe infant car seat.
This buggy also has a large front wheel which assists in providing an easy ride for the child. This is essential, especially when you're tackling challenging off terrain stroller. It lets the buggy to follow better tracks and glide better over bumps and dips. Nipper Sport is easy to drive and comes with a single pedal brake. The handlebar is ergonomic in design and a single-pedal easy-lock brake with a variable steering. The buggy is also very easy to fold, with clear step-bystep instructions and illustrations in the user manual.
The Nipper Sport is designed for children aged up to six months. It can also be used with a newborn thanks to the built-in insert. However, it is not recommended for use with infants under six months since the harness of the seat isn't secure enough to keep them.
Another problem with this pushchair is the lack of a storage bin underneath the seat. The small shopping bag at the back of the seat isn't large enough to accommodate a large changing pouch. It is, however, extremely easy to open and close, using only two hands required to release the plastic catches that are on either side of the lower frame. There is also a secondary lock catch on the handlebar in red, which can be released with just one hand, making it extremely practical to use.
