Path of Exile Item Upgrading
In Path of Exile, item upgrading is one of the best ways to improve your gear without relying upon big-ticket drops or trade. This article will show you how to upgrade your items.
Upgrades to equipment provide an increase to the item's base stats. The bonus increases with upgrade component's level and rarity.
Components
Upgrade components make your armour and weapons better. You can locate them by destroying enemies, purchasing them from karma vendors, or finding them in items-spheres. You can also salvage them from equipment that contains the components, or by utilizing high-end salvage kits like Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components are not destroyed when they are removed from the item.
Upgrade components are mostly used to upgrade an item but they can also be used for other purposes. They can be stacked to boost the value of an item that can be upgraded or they can be used to boost the experience gained by upgrading an existing weapon or piece of equipment. They can also be forged to give additional bonuses. For instance, a created glyph can increase the chance of upgrading its target, whereas the boost upgrade can boost the defense or attack quality of a weapon or armor.
You can attach an upgrade template to an item by selecting it from the edition GUI. This will display an upgrade component list that the item can be upgraded to. You can also use the workbench when selecting an upgrade template. In either case the item will be upgraded after enough upgrade components are collected.
Each component has its own experience multiplier. This determines the amount of experience an item gains when upgraded with that component. For instance, organic components have a more experience multipliers than mechanical ones. It is therefore recommended to upgrade with organic components until you have reached the experience multiplier for the next rank of equipment or weapon, and then move to mechanical upgrades.
Each item comes with an upgrade maximum number that it is possible to receive. The number of upgrades is determined by the upgradeable rank and the type of upgrade for the upgradeable item. The highest level of upgrade is a weapon of 10th level. The most commonly used upgrade is a tier 6 gun and an armor upgrade of tier 5.
Sets
A set is a set of items that share the same bonus. Each item can be upgraded at the minimum once. The upgrade will increase the guaranteed bonuses. The first time you upgrade an item, its initial stat will be +1. On subsequent upgrades, the primary stats will be increased even more (for instance +1 for 12+/13+/14+) and each time an item is upgraded, one of its additional stats is increased randomly.
The upgrade of a weapon can increase the damage base, which could be necessary for certain builds. However, weapons are not upgraded to a higher defense level than their base. It's possible to increase the value of certain sets and unique items by upgrading them, however they're not always superior to a high-level Runeword.
If an item you're upgrading comes with a guaranteed bonus it is able to be rerolled once, and then its guarantee will reset to 0. The same amount of power die is used to reroll an item as it would be used to level it up. However, the new item has different bonuses. Upgrades can be completed at the NPC [Armor] Boboko in the Central Flarine. To upgrade an item, you'll need a power die of each kind (Dice 4 or 6 drop from monsters 21+ and Giants; Dice 7 drops from bosses) and the proper amount of Minerals and Erons. These can be bought by using Gold at the crafting table or in the Ultra Collection. The NPC will also give a special reward for each tier of the upgrade process. The reward can be rerolled a single time with the same materials and components as the first item.
Rerolling
A player is able to reroll any item acquired in the game provided they have enough reroll tokens. When an upgraded item upgrader kit is rerolled, it will be exchanged for an equivalent version at a level 1 of the same item in another set. Reroll tokens can be purchased in the store for a small amount of in-game currency. They are non-refundable. The new item will have the same bonus features as the original, but the stats will also differ.
Players can change the identification of their equipment, in addition to changing it's roll by interfacing with an NPC upgrader. This will change its identification from a weapon to an armor or reverse the process. The basic requirements and stats remain the same. The change is permanent and will affect all characters who have the gear in question.
The player can also upgrade the item level for any equipment that is equipped. This is accomplished by engaging with an upgrader NPC, and then obtaining upgrade items. The cost will vary depending on the upgrade track, the item type and the number of crests. Each upgrade will add an additional 5% of damage to weapons.
An upgrade can boost its power, but it will also decrease its quality. Therefore, it is important to balance the two. Certain items might not be worth upgrading and some will require to be upgraded to realize their potential. For instance an individual player may wish to upgrade a piece breakpoint armor with an interesting modifier (% chance to block or FHR) to see what it can be.
Rerolling is a standard practice in Genshin Impact and other gacha-based games. People use it in order to get an item or character that they wouldn't otherwise have. Getting these items can be expensive and time-consuming, and the RNG gods do not always want to play. The only choices left is to shell out real money or grind for a long time. Rerolling is a popular option in Genshin Impact.
Leveling
You can decide to upgrade the weapon or armor when upgrading an item. This feature isn't available in the current version of the game. I believe it was designed to to increase the value of rare items, but since equipment generally drops quickly and is only upgraded one level up, you'll usually replace the item upgrader kit before it gets too old. It is also not worth upgrading items with gem sockets, as the power of the stone will outweigh any increment in the level of.
When you click on the upgrade option on an item, you will see a small window with the item's upgrade template and the crest and Valorstone costs to increase the level of the item upgrade. The costs will vary between armor and weapons and the latter typically costing more than the latter. The upgrade template shows the statistics that will be added to the upgraded item. It also lists its current ilvl.
The cost of the Valorstone and crest is calculated using the current Ilvl of the item and the upgrade templates. In addition, the ilvl of the new upgraded item will be decreased by the template's lvl decrease percentage. For instance, an upgrade of 8% will reduce the weapon's ilvl by 8 to 8%.
The item will get upgrades to other stats like critical strike damage, PvE damage and block, parry, and dodge rating in addition to the base ilvl. These increases are also based off the upgrade template.
In the upgrade template you can determine the amount of damage or defense the item will suffer when it is upgraded. This is shown below the cost and the upgrade percentages. In addition to equipment for practice, all armor and weapons gain the same stats when they are upgraded. The value of these stats will be determined by the market, with a perfectly rolled perfect version of a piece of armor or weapon able to command much higher trade values than non-upp'd versions. The same applies to other armor pieces, such as circlets and Tiaras.
