World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

The upgrading of your equipment is an essential aspect of equipping your character. Upgrades increase the damage of your item and enchantments.

They also offer bonus effects and improvements. The Blacksmith is able to sell them to you.

The upgrade button is located on any item. Every item upgrader recycled adds level to the upgrade item gauge.

Weapon

When a weapon is upgraded, it gets an initial damage bonus as well as an increase in the scaling factor that affects other stats. The weapon may also gain a variety of upgrade components that provide additional attributes or effects, and some have distinctive cosmetic effects. These upgrades can be added to armors, weapons, trinkets and gathering tools. They generally require that the item has an upgrade slot available and meets certain requirements. If a weapon piece has an upgrade component in it, it is able to be upgraded with a different one, but the prior upgrade will be destroyed (except for legendary equipment and upgrades). Upgrade components can be recovered through the Black Lion Salvage Kit, Ascended Salvage tool, or a high-tier salvaging tool for an item.

A weapon can also be upgraded to include a calibration attribute that improves certain stats, such as Weakspot damage or Crit Rate. This is accomplished through the Gear Workbench interaction menu. This can be repeated four times based on the weapon's level.

After the weapon has reached its maximum level of improvement it can be rebuilt to add additional effects and bonuses or to boost specific stats. These upgrades can all be used simultaneously, and their effects will depend on how rare the weapon is.

There are two Blacksmiths in the game who can perform these upgrades: Blacksmith Hewg in the Church of Elleh hub area and Smithing Master Iji on the Road to the Manor Site of Grace. Both upgrade materials are different: Smithing Stones to modify the type of damage that weapon does and Somber Smithing Stones to modify standard weapons.

In general, it's Best Item Upgrade to increase the damage of your weapon first. Then, you can upgrade your armour defense and, finally, the secondary stats that are required by your build. Particularly, it is common to see melee druids upgrading their weapon prior to any other gear, because it can increase DPS. This is especially applicable to enchantments that enhance a weapon's stats and damage.

Some upgrades also provide useful passive effects, such as cutting down on the amount of damage sustained while wearing armor or adding the ability to deflect attacks.

Depending on the type of armor, upgrading an item can require multiple tries. If a player is looking to upgrade Steelclash armor into Dragonscale and the first attempt will result in a new Dragonscale armor with a defense base between 59-67. The second attempt will result in a brand new Dragonscale armor with a base defense between 67-77, and the list goes on.

Contrary to popular belief, armor in The Division 2 is not in any way useless. The fact of the matter is that some armors provide significant boosts to poison, curse, fire or magic damage reduction, which makes them extremely useful for certain types of builds. There are many other ways to improve armor stats besides upgrading the armor, like using the engineer trait to increase armor penetrating or the challenger trait to decrease total weight.
