What is a bedside cot?

A bedside crib, also known as a bassinet or co-sleeper is a crib for babies that is attached to your adult bed. This allows your child to sleep right next to you in a safe environment. This is a safe form of co-sleeping that doesn't increase the risk of SIDS as bedsharing does. It also helps you bond with your new baby.

The cots come with one side that can be lowered to allow you to reach your baby easily at night to soothe and feed them. This is especially useful for mothers recovering from an op. Many are portable or foldable making them suitable for travel and as an interim solution for babies that aren't yet ready to be able to transition into a crib that is large bedside cot enough.

If you're looking for a bedside crib Choose a crib with a comfortable mattress and a protective cover to shield your baby from the stains. You'll also want to pick up some baby-safe add-ons such as a blanket and cuddly toy.

If you are looking for a longer-term solution Some cribs have conversion kits that let you transform them into a toddler bed or cot at the time that is appropriate. This is great for extending their life and making the transition more seamless. Some have a removable top section that transforms into a bassinet, while others can be used on an ordinary or high-rise adult bed. This is a great option for families that intend to frequently travel or switch between bedrooms in the evening. Consider the size of your bedroom to ensure that you be able to fit in the crib comfortably. Many cribs come with an incline which can be used to create an incline for babies with reflux.

Designed to help parents bond with their infants while they sleep together without sharing a bed. This co-sleeper has features that help make bonding between parents safe, easy and fun.

This makes the crib very stable and secure, allowing you to sleep peacefully, without having to worry that your child will slide off into the middle. Anna found the CoZee to be a safe and comfortable sleeping space for her baby. It was a pleasure to not move like other models, so she wasn't disturbed in the night trying to soothe her baby for feedings. She also liked that the side lowered down so she didn't have to reach out over her partner to pull the baby for feedings at night.

The CoZee comes in oak or charcoal and is a stylish option for any bedroom. It's more of an elegant piece of furniture than some of the other cribs we've tested, and can appear quite utilitarian. The Maxi-Cosi lora

The Iora is a bassinet for the bed that allows parents to feel more connected to their infant as they sleep. It can be adjusted upwards and downwards and moved to three different slide positions to be placed beside the bed of the parent or in the corner to ensure that the infant is always within reach. The mesh siding allows air to flow through and allows you to see your baby quickly. And you can store additional pajamas and other items in the large storage basket beneath.

As opposed to other bedside crib options Iora is a standout among other bedside cot bed cribs. Iora can be folded flat and comes with a bag for travel so that it can be taken wherever. It was easy to move from room to room and our mom testers thought it was the perfect size for a bedside crib. The large storage basket is great to store extra bedding or nappies.

This is a great choice for parents who want to co-sleep but don't want to share their own beds or whose partners may be prone to mobility issues, such as arthritis or back pain. Our mum testers loved the ease with which they could access their child in the Iora and that it came with an optional reflux incline that helped to reduce gas.

Our mothers are also thrilled that it meets NICE guidelines that state to put the baby in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no blankets, toys pillows, etc.). They also state that the mattress is comfortable and firm for babies and is easy to find sheets for. It isn't as light as other cribs for bedside crib co sleeper use, though it is a good choice if you are looking for something lighter and more portable, look at other options on our list.
