The backplate fixing centre and the lever/keyhole dimensions are the most important measurements. Make sure you compare these to your current measurements prior to ordering.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles for doors consist of an elongated lever handle on one side and a paddle shaped handle on the other. These are designed to work with key wind locks however they can also be adapted to multipoint split spindle door locks (though you'll require an additional dual spindle lock case).
Once you have chosen the right handle for your doors, the available finishes will be shown in the drop-down menu. Some styles of handles are not available in all finishes. Always check the technical drawing and dimensions for the item that you want to ensure you get the right fit and size.
When choosing the new set of lever pad door handles made of upvc, it is crucial to make sure that they are in line with the PZ (distance between the spindle of the handle and the centre of the hole for the cylinder) of your current multipoint door locks, as these need to be in the same line to allow doors to remain locked, either from the inside or the outside. Our handles are designed to fit the majority of conventional cylinders, but it is a good idea to double-check before ordering.
You'll need to take off your existing handles and dismantle the lock case if you're upgrading to dual spindle handle levers as this will require a split inline cylinder. You can purchase these separately. We have included a diagram of the technical aspects in the images of each product.
After you have removed the screws that are holding your existing door handle it is recommended to loosen them and inspect the mechanism to determine how it's performing. If the screws aren't tight enough, you may need to loosen them even more. After that, you can take the spindle from the door handle and replace it with a new Upvc handle. It is important to ensure that the handle is in the proper position before screwing it into place. You can do this by placing your finger between the frame of the door and the handle to make sure that it is level.
Lever/Lever
The lever door handles are used to operate a multi-point lock using the Euro cylinder. They are located on many double upvc doors, as well as on some wooden and aluminum doors. They feature a lever on the inside and a paddle on the outside and are usually supplied in two types. Sprung - These have a spring cassette installed within the backplate to help bring the handle lever into the horizontal position. Non-sprung - These do not have a spring mechanism, and must be manually pulled to raise the handle lever to a horizontal position.
To fix a door handle that is sagging, you will need to find the hole for access to the detent or pin, which is typically an elongated or rectangular shape hole or protruding pin that is located on the opposite side of the handle base plate. Once located you can loosen the set screw using a screwdriver and take it off to allow the lever and return it to its horizontal position.
Once the handle is in a horizontal position, you can re-install the screws and tighten them to make sure the handle remains secure on the base plate. Consider applying a threadlocking solution to the threads of the screw to increase grip and stop them from loosing over time.
Drooping lever door handles can be caused by a number of factors. The most common reason is that the fixings aren't tight, causing the lever bearing to pull up against the door. It could also be that the levers have not been adjusted at the right angle, which causes compression of the latch mechanism and prevents it from fully springing into motion.
Another common reason is that the sprung lever isn't operating correctly and this is typically due to the sprung not being in the correct position within the backplate. To check if the handle returns to horizontal, simply move it.
If the door handles aren't tight, it is essential to spot the problem quickly, as it could cause excessive wear on the screws, and even to the handle falling off of the base plate. It is also recommended to tighten any loose screws on a regular basis to stop them from becoming looser.
Lever/Snib
These upvc handles are called 'Snib handle sets' and have the snib lock button on the top of the door lever. If you don't have a dummy lock device you can use this feature to secure the door. They are typically fitted with a Fullex 68PZ (that's 68mm between the spindle's center and lever or lock centre) door lock. We also stock a range of patio door handle replacement handles with 68PZ from manufacturers like Ferco and Fab & Fix.
