World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its base stats increase in value. This is the sum of all the upgraded advantages (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the number of perks that have to be altered to upgrade an item.
Item level is a popular measurement of power and can be found on all tooltips of items. It also serves as a gating requirement when waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is limited to an lower level). The average level of an item is listed on the character sheet.
Using the item level can help players compare the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a good gauge of an item's worth and how much damage it's capable of dealing with. The item level can also be used to compare items when looking at the inventory of a seller.
The item level can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including the ilvl. It can also be located by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are several theories about how the item upgrader kit level calculation is done. One theory is that the item level is a number derived from a formula that determines how much an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that different perks have different values and that gems in sockets increase the item's overall value. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.
It's not the only factor that influences the ilvl of an item. The location of where the item was dropped can change its stats. For example it can add a level to the item's haste or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.
Item Stats
Stats on an item are a significant component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game makes use of them in many ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to one weapon, and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats of a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat mods which are then enhanced by the player's level.
The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats on the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare levels will be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.
Another method to alter the stats on an item is through affixes. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item upgrader kit. The affixes are used to give items extra damage, special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs), or to make them unique by adding a name.
Currently, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circling arrows. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold as well as items, which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as the other options for rerolling.
In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may select which of the available stats to be kept on an item when it is upgraded. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the level of the item, but all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within that range, unless it is an item that is unique or a God roll from a raid boss.
This is another aspect that could be altered by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to boost. Similar to base equipment, it will have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player boosts the likelihood of locating items as well as the properties generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is particularly advantageous in the early game, since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chance of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance which increases with each item level and can be further increased by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, armor, and shields can spawn or be crafted by using the Luck property, which has an initial value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of the item up to 140.
Certain items, such as the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that causes damage by 5%. These items are available in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to boost their success rate or prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade fails.
When you upgrade an item, the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading that item, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..
The success of an item upgrades is also influenced by the luck of the item. Every item has an initial success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.
The item upgrade overlays are rendered above the items in the inventory. This could cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
