What is a bedside crib?

A bedside crib, also referred to as a bassinet or a co-sleeper, is a small crib for babies that is attached to your adult bed. This allows your newborn bedside cot to sleep with you in peace. This is a safe form of co-sleeping and doesn't increase your risk of SIDS as bedsharing does. It can also help you bond with the newborn baby.

The cots usually come with a side that can be adjusted so that you can easily reach your infant during the night for feeding and comforting. This is particularly beneficial for mothers who are recovering from an op. Many of them are foldable bedside crib or portable so you can use them for trips and as an interim solution for babies who aren't quite ready to transition into a full-sized crib.

Choose a crib that has a breathable mattress, and an appropriate cover to protect your baby from staining. You should also pick up some baby-safe add-ons such as a blanket and a soft toy.

If you're looking for a more long-term option, some cribs have conversion kits that let you transform them into a cot or toddler bed when the time comes. This is great for extending their life and making the transition easier. Some even have a detachable top section that converts into a bassinet, and some can be used as a regular or a high-rise adult bed. This is a good choice for families that plan on frequently traveling or switching between bedrooms at night. Be aware of the size of your bedroom to make sure you can fit comfortably in the crib. Many cribs come with a riser that can be used to create an incline to accommodate babies with reflux.
