World of Warcraft item upgrade Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may increase the rarity of an item or mark Level and boost additional stats.
Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specified amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its base stats improve in value. This is the sum of all its upgraded perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to how many perks need to be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.
Item level is a popular measure of power, and can be found on all item upgrade; related resource site, tooltips. It also serves as a gating requirement while waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is limited to a lower level). Players can see their average item level in their character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell gear players can evaluate the item level. It's a good gauge of an item's worth and how much damage it's able to deal. The level of the item can be used to evaluate items when examining a vendor's inventory.
On PC, you can see the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are various theories about how the calculation of an item's level is done. One theory states that the item level is calculated by a formula that calculates the worth of an item's stats actually are. It takes into consideration that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in the sockets increase the value of the item. This can lead to an item's ilvl calculated, which is usually very close to Blizzard's actual item level.
However, this isn't the only factor that can affect an item's ilvl because the size of the area the item dropped in can alter the value of its stats, such as by adding a level to its haste or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.
Item Stats
The stats of an item can determine the fate of an item for players. The game makes use of them in a variety of ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to a single weapon and to motivate them to try out other weapons. The stats of a base weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modification which are then enhanced by the player's level.
Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats on the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas items with rare tiers can be upgraded many times at higher prices.
Affixes are another way to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can be used to give items extra damage, special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs), or to distinguish them by putting a name on them.
Currently, all affixes can be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with the arrows that circle. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold and other items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other options for rerolling.
Players can upgrade an item by a specific stat, or reroll the affixes. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the range, unless it is a unique item or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.
Another thing that could be altered by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item level, and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the chances of item discoveries and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the intensity of those properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is especially advantageous for early game runs, since players tend to prioritize weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each level of the item. These can also be increased by using anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons come with a default Luck value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to give +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of an item, up to 140.
Certain items, such as the weapon that is infused with hollow, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any skill that deals damage by 5percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or crafted by using the appropriate ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the success rate of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item in the event that it fails.
The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.
The Luck of an item can also affect the success of an upgrade. All items have a success rate of 25 percent, and each item that has Luck increases this chance by 5%.
The upgrade overlays of the item are rendered above the items in the inventory. This can cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
