Buying a Convertible Single to Double Stroller
There aren't many things more exciting than hearing that you're expecting your second child. However, preparing your family for this new addition is not without its own set of difficulties.
One of these is selecting the most suitable double pram to meet your needs. This article will cover the different options available, as well as some tips to help you choose the right pram for your growing family.
Convertible double prams
If you're looking for a triple pram that can adapt to your family and your family, a convertible single double pram is an excellent option. These innovative frames, such as the Cybex Aton 4 Twin, expand widthways to accommodate a second child and usually come with the option of an additional shopping basket, or two car seats or carrycots (with upper adapters and lower adapters readily available) so that you can begin your family with just one buggy and then upgrade to twins without the need to purchase a new pram once more. They usually offer more configuration and seating options for both children than other types of double prams, and will have better weight distribution so they're generally easier to maneuver. Pros: Easy to use compact and flexible. Cons: It takes up less space and storage for both children and parents when compared to other designs.
Tandem (in-line) double prams
Like the name suggests, tandem prams for sale are two bassinets or two seats that face each other. Tandem prams tend to be more compact strollers than double prams which are side-by-side. They are also easier to maneuver through doors and public transport. However they don't offer the same amount of storage space and may be more difficult to access when both seats are in use when your child is in the front seat.
Some first-time parents opt for a tandem stroller to protect their investment should they have children of the same age. A popular model is our DUO2 pram that is initially designed as a single buggy, but can be upgraded to a twin stroller by the addition of a second seat. It can also be converted back to one pram once your child's older one outgrows it.
Tandem prams come in a variety of designs and include the option for infants to be placed in a bassinet of the pram on top, while an older child is seated in the seat below. Most tandem prams can be converted to an a travel system by putting an automobile capsule to the top seat.
For the ultimate flexibility, a double side-by-side pram lets both children enjoy the ride together and have fun while they travel. This will help avoid the two of them from waking up or fighting over toys, and the fact that they're sitting next to each other allows you to easily go through doors and other obstacles easily.
A side-by-side is also the ideal choice for grandparents who want to get in the fun. They can both push the kids around and assist with shopping, running errands and attending events. They're usually less expensive than a tandem stroller, so they can be ideal for introducing grandparents to babysitting duties.
Single prams
A single pram is able to accommodate one seat or bassinet/carry cot. It is suitable for infants to approximately 4 years of age. 4 years old. A majority of single prams allow a toddler board to be attached to the back, so that a second child can sit or stand (depending on the type of toddler board) while you push the stroller through.
Some first-time parents choose to future-proof their pram by purchasing a double pram option, like our DUO2. This means that you will use the Pram Double in single mode while you have a single child, and then change it into a tandem double pram when baby number two is born. This will save you the cost and stress of purchasing an additional double pram.
Tandem or in-line double prams are larger than side by side double prams, but they are more maneuverable on busy pedestrian paths and in shops. They can be difficult to use while running and require more effort to push them up and down hills.
Side by side prams are much more spacious than tandem or in-line double prams but are a good option for families with 2 children close in age. They can see and interact with each other from their seats. However, they are less mobile and might not be able to fit through standard doorways as easily as a tandem stroller.
Non-convertible side-by-side prams cannot be used in single mode. You will need to purchase a new pram or a stroller to accommodate your children's younger ones. However, they offer the benefit of being less expensive and last longer than double prams that convert, since they aren't designed to be used in single and double modes. The main downside is that your child will soon outgrow the side-by-side seat and will require to be transferred to a toddler's seat which could be costly.
