3 Wheeled Buggies
A 3-wheeler is ideal for off-road walking & taking on terrains from bumpy pavements to woodland tracks. They can also be easier to manoeuvre up and down kerbs than models with four wheels.
Kath, the editor of MadeForMums' reviews, tested one of these three-wheelers on tarmac as well as on a variety of terrains. You can read her review here.
Stability
Four-wheel buggies with their centre of gravity balancing by your child's weight in the seat are generally more stable than three-wheelers. three wheel pushchair-wheel buggies are still worth considering as they can handle everything from rough terrain to busy streets.
Look for a buggy with large rear wheels and one that locks on the front. This will make it easier to drive and less likely to fall apart on bumpy roads. These buggies are typically equipped with pneumatic tyres, too. They are ideal for handling uneven surfaces and can even be used on sandy beaches or woodland tracks.
They are also great buggies to jog with because they provide great stability in rough terrain and aid you in staying with your running partner. They can also be used to go up and down steep kerbs and many have spring suspension that is built-in, so your child will enjoy a smooth ride.
The one thing that makes a 3-wheeled pushchair tricky to maneuver is the broad frame, which makes it difficult to squeeze through narrow and tight doorways than a 4-wheeler. However, some manufacturers have tackled this issue with an innovative design that makes the wheels flip upwards when not being used, which reduces their overall size, and allows you get through doors without difficulty.
You'll also need to think about whether the buggy you choose to use is suitable for your little one from birth, or if you're thinking of using it in conjunction with an infant car seat or carry cot. Check if the buggy has an option to lie flat and if it's compatible with a second seat and buggy boards if you intend to bring a toddler along. Many 3 wheel push chair-wheelers will fold flat and be stood upright when collapsed and is handy if you have limited space in your car boot or limited storage space at home. Some 3-wheelers require you remove the front wheel in order to fold into smaller spaces.
Manoeuvrability
Three-wheeled buggies are more movable than strollers with four wheels. A majority of them have a swivelling wheel on the front, which allows you to steer and change direction using one hand. Some also have a lockable front wheel that can provide stability on rougher terrain. Some models can be used with a second seat or buggy board in case you're planning to grow your family.
If you are planning to take your three-wheeled buggies off the roads that are paved it is recommended to choose a model with pneumatic tyres. They can handle the most difficult terrain. These tyres may need to be pumped up from time to time, but they will be more durable and puncture-proof compared to solid tyres. Find a model with a the ability to lock the swivelling wheel on the front to aid you in navigating difficult surfaces.
When folded, three-wheelers can be more bulky than buggies with four wheels because of the single wheel in front. Make sure the model you select fits in your car's boot and can be placed upright if required. Certain models can fold in one hand and are freestanding when collapsed. This can save space in boot spaces that are smaller.
A well-constructed three-wheeled pushchair can handle most terrains from busy roads to forest tracks. It's important to think about how you will use it every day. If you'll be running the school run, it ought to be able to cope with steep kerbs and slopes. If you plan to jog on it, ensure it has a swivelling "stretch front wheel' that can be locked. This will keep the ride in place.
MFM reviewer Kath found her tri-wheeled buggy was able to handle well with rural and urban walks. She said that it navigated cobbles, rocky paths and uneven pavements with ease and felt pleasant to jog with too. It's also a great choice for day trips as it has a lot of storage space. It has an enormous, spacious, zip-top basket that is covered and an expandable, 50+ UV hood. It can also be adapted to fit babies as young as an adjustable seat that can be sat on or a carry cot, in addition to being compatible with a variety of popular second-seats and buggy boards.
Fabric Sling Seat
The primary distinction between a fabric seat and a modular one is the fabric sling. It is placed inside the frame of the buggy rather than being positioned on top like the modular chair. This allows for a more comfortable and ergonomically-correct position for the baby, which results in a lower center of gravity that is just the right height. This in turn makes for an easier push, a lighter curb pop (you don't require much effort or weight to lift the buggy off the nose of a curb) and better stability and balance.
These buggy seats also feature Sling fabrics that are simple to clean and durable. These fabrics were specifically designed for Sling chairs and are highly UV resistant and breathable. They are also easy to maintain using mild soap and warm water.
If you are a jogger, or you like off-roading then an all terrain buggy is more likely to meet your requirements than a four-wheeler. These types tend to have a wider base, more stable and use air-filled tyres to allow for smooth and agile movement on rough ground.

3-wheel buggies provide more stability than strollers with four wheels, making them ideal for off-road and all terrain adventures. The large, highly maneuverable front wheel allows for smooth and quick movement. The tyres that are typically filled with air and have suspension, give you a great ride even on the roughest trails and roads. The wheels are not as close to the ground on these pushchairs as they would be on four wheeled pushchairs. This makes them great for walking uphill.
Often 3-wheel prams are a popular choice for parents who enjoy running and jogging with their baby because they offer superior mobility and are much more sleek than their 4-wheel counterparts.
