They can also be used as a moses basket, too.

What is a bedside crib?

A bedside crib (also known as a co-sleeper or bassinet) is a small infant crib that is attached to your adult bed, allowing your infant to sleep safely next to you. It's a method of safe co-sleeping that doesn't increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing, and can help you build a bond with your new arrival.

The cots usually come with a side that can be lowered, so you can easily reach your newborn during the night for feeding and comforting. This is particularly beneficial for mums recovering from the c-section. Many are also foldable or portable, so you can bring them along on trips and use them as a temporary sleep solution for newborns who aren't ready to transition into a cot that is full size.

When you are looking for a bedside crib, look for a model with a comfortable mattress and a protective cover to protect your newborn from staining. You may also want to purchase some baby-safe accessories like the blanket or teether.

If you are looking for a longer-term solution cribs are available with conversion kits that allow you to transform them into a toddler bed or cot when the time is appropriate. This is a great way to extend their lifespan and making the transition easier. Some even have a detachable top section that can be converted into a bassinet, and some can be used as a regular or a high-rise adult bed. This is a great option for families that plan to frequently travel or switch between bedrooms in the evening. Consider the dimensions of your room to make sure you can be able to fit in the crib comfortably. Many cribs come with an riser that can be used to create an inclined position for babies who suffer from reflux.

This is a great option for parents who wish to sleep together but don't want to share their bed. If one of the partners has mobility issues, such as arthritis or back pain. Our mum testers loved that they could easily access their child in the Iora and that it came with an optional reflux incline that helped to reduce gas.

Our mums love that it follows NICE guidelines. These are to place the infant in a Moses basket or crib on its own, without blankets, toys, pillows etc. The mattress is also a good firm and comfortable for babies and sheets are easy to find. It's not as light as the other smaller cribs on our list, so if you prefer something lighter and easier to move around, consider a different option.
