What is a bedside cot newborn crib?
A bedside crib, also referred as a bassinet, or co-sleeper is a baby cot that is attached to an adult bed. This allows your child to sleep right next to you in safety. It's a method of co-sleeping that is safe and does not increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing and can help you build a bond with your baby's new arrival.
These cots have an end that can be lowered to allow you to reach your baby easily at night to soothe and feed them. This is particularly helpful for mothers recovering from an op. Many of them are portable or foldable, so you can bring them along on trips and use them as a temporary sleep solution for newborns who aren't ready to transition to a full-sized cot.

This will prolong their life and make the transition a lot easier. Some models have a removable portion at the top that can be turned into the bassinet. Others can be used with either a standard adult bed or a high-rise model. This is a good choice for families that plan on frequently traveling or switching rooms during the night. A lot of cribs have an adjustable riser that can be used to create an inclined position for babies who suffer from reflux.

Anna discovered that the CoZee could be a safe, comfortable sleeping space for her infant. She was delighted the fact that it didn't roll like other models, so it didn't wake her at night when she was trying to comfort her baby during feedings. She also loved that the side was lowered so she didn't need to reach out over her partner to lift the baby out for night time feeds.
The CoZee is available in oak and charcoal and is a chic addition to the bedroom. It's more of an elegant piece of furniture than some of the other cribs that we've tried, which look quite utilitarian in comparison. It's also relatively lightweight at just 11kg and comes with a carrying case so you can take it on vacation or when you move home. You only need to purchase a waterproof sheet and a safety strap for sleeping together. The instructions and illustrations are easy to follow once you open the box.
The Maxi-Cosi lora
The Iora is a bassinet designed for infants designed to make parents feel closer to their baby as they sleep. It adjusts upwards and downwards and moves through three slide positions to fit next to the bed of the parent, or in the corner of the room, so that the baby is always close at hand. The mesh siding allows air to circulate through, allowing you to see your baby quickly. And you can stow additional pajamas and other items in the large storage basket underneath.
Unlike some other smaller travel bedside crib cribs The Iora can be folded flat and comes with a carry-on bag which allows it to be taken anywhere. It was easy to move around from room to space, and our mum testers felt it was the perfect size for a bedside crib. They also appreciated the large storage basket, which is ideal for stowing nappies or bedding.
This is a great option for parents looking to sleep in a co-sleeping arrangement but do not want to share their beds or whose partner may be suffering from mobility issues, such as arthritis or back pain. Our mom testers were thrilled to be able to easily access their child in the Iora and that it had an adjustable reflux incline that helped reduce gas.
Our mums are also thrilled that it complies with NICE guidelines which state that you should place the infant in a crib or Moses basket on its own (with no toys, blankets pillows, etc.). They also state that the mattress is firm and comfortable for the baby and easy to find sheets for. It isn't as light as other cribs that are smaller however and if you're looking for something lighter and easier to move around with, consider one of the other options in our list.
