Three Wheeled Buggies
Whether you're looking for a buggy to run with or just a nifty stroller to tackle the neighborhood, three-wheeled buggies provide great mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver even in tight spaces.
For an easy ride, opt for a pram that has air-filled tyres. Also, look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. However, they are more prone to punctures, so make sure you are prepared with an repair kit.
Frame made of sturdy material
The latest figures have been released revealing that the three-wheeled vehicle - that noughties symbol of more money than sense is in a decline. They are being replaced by four-wheelers which can be more versatile in terrain, while still looking swanky and being easy to push.
The larger the wheels are, the more your buggy will be able to deal with bumpy and uneven pavements. The larger wheels on both the front and back also makes it much easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on rough terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy with a newborn and 3 wheel tandem stroller year old and found it was able to handle cobbles, grass, rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. She said "it is sturdy to push and extremely solid when you're on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need occasional pumping) have suspension built-in which was extremely comfortable for my kids.
Another thing to think about is the size of the seat and shape. The seat should be big enough for your child to be at ease and to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies offer a lie-flat option that lets your child face you, whereas others only allow a parent-facing one.
The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road or walking in muddy areas. This buggy is ideal for a single child as early as birth, and can be adapted to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for toddlers and infants from birth to age 4 and includes a bumper with a rain cover, an upgraded 5-point harness, and a large cushioned seat. The storage options are excellent as well, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets on the hood and an easy-to-access pouch on the back of the seat unit.
Larger wheels
Larger wheels means that your buggy will be more stable on uneven terrain, which is ideal for buggies that are off-road. They also help you navigate the pushchair through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have the front wheels that swivel to help you navigate around corners with ease, whereas others are specifically designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability at which they can be pushed. This can also help if you bump into an unintentional tree root or road, as the front wheel will rise up to keep you from hitting it.
A lot of 3 wheel stroller with bassinet wheel pushchairs have air-filled tyres. This means they can be used on many different terrains and are far more flexible than 4-wheeler. They're also lighter. However, they are prone to punctures, so you'll need to keep a repair kit, spare tube and pump handy.
Our top 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. Both of these buggies have larger wheels that, as per MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on gravel tracks, grass and market town cobbles" and are able to easily go up and down kerbs. They also come with a suspension system that according to her "smoothes out bumps extremely effectively".
The downside of having larger wheels is that they make some buggies quite wide and may struggle to squeeze through narrow spaces. This could be a problem if you are using it as a jogger, or need to fit through doorways that are narrow when out and about. Luckily, most models have compact folding options that allow you to take off the front wheels to create more compact storage.
Easy to maneuver
One of the main benefits of a three-wheel buggy is that it's much easier to maneuver particularly with a child in tow. The way in which they are built ensures that the front wheels turn at a quick pace and are really easy to manoeuvre which makes them perfect for difficult terrain like cobbles, parks and bumpy pavements as well as dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3-wheeler with her infant and toddler and wrote: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the ground with the swivel rear wheel particularly useful. I was also awed by how well it dealt with kerbs using the hand-operated break. I found it to be extremely stable when going downhill or over uneven ground."
The only downside to this incredible maneuverability is that the larger wheels of the 3 wheel buggy might make it difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is something to keep in mind when you live in an urban area. If this is the case, a 4-wheeled buggy may be the better choice for you.

Comfort
A 3 wheel jogger stroller-wheel buggy is a great off-road vehicle for handling and performance. With perfect geometry and engineering, as well as weight distribution this type of buggy can turn on a dime and be a breeze to steer with just one hand. All Mountain Buggies meet the same rigorous global stability standards and tests as buggies with four wheels.
With a fabric sling seat positioned snugly inside the frame instead of sitting on top like modular seats, the Sport's smart design permits it to have a lower centre of gravity, which is at the ideal level for your child - delivering you an easier push, a lighter curb pop (you don't need the same amount of weight or effort to lift the nose of your buggy up and over a curb) and better stability and balance. With 16" rear wheels, the lockable front wheel, and tyres that are air-filled, you can enjoy a more smooth, comfortable jog.
The only all-terrain stroller in our collection with a parent-facing seat that can also accommodate an infant car seat or carrycot, you are able to ensure your family's future is secure and enjoy every adventure from the very first day and for many years to come!
Kath who was our MFM reviewer, also loved the roominess of this buggy. There's a easily accessible large basket that's quite spacious for a buggy of this size. Plus, there's also an excellent pouch on the back unit, and two smaller mesh pockets under the hood to keep your phone and keys.
