World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades can increase the value of weapons, armors and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like Crit chance and damage from PvE.
For instance an item with the upgrade template that is ending in % will gain 3damage to attack each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).
Item upgrading costs crests and the current level of the item. The cost rises with item's level.
Components
Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to give an extra stat boost or effect while they're in use. These can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment with a slot for them; the item must have been at the very least upgraded to blue level in order for the component to be applied. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used one time; they cannot be applied multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet ascended or legendary equipment, as well as some of the items that are not ascending back. Infusions and enrichments can be retrieved by salvaging gear from the ascended, or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.
An upgrade items may be prefixed or a suffix that alters the name of the equipment with which it is used (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia is changed to Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, which allows players to create stronger versions of that equipment using less Upgrade Crystals than is required to reach the same level of upgrade through normal methods.
A boost upgrade can alter the defense or attack characteristics of a weapon or armor. These upgrades are available to be made using the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. They can be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear or purchasing them in the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals each.
Each upgrade increases the chance that a better-quality version of an item will be available at the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to keep improving their equipment even if they're uncertain of the extent to which it will increase after a future reset.
The process of upgrading an item can be costly, and it is possible that the item will be obsolete or even break in the event that the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed when an upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to decrease or eliminate the chance of failure. Some upgrades also give a bonus if they are reinserted.
Glyphs
Glyphs are upgrade parts that can be placed in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs boost the power of nodes within a radius, including any existing affixes. Glyphs can be upgraded in numerous ways. We recommend upgrading them as quickly as possible up to 15 levels.
In the final game you'll often discover that the best way to improve your gear is to place Glyphs. These are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded up to level 15 and give an enormous boost to your power on the Paragon Board.
The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced but Glyphs are the only upgrade component that can be removed and re-placed without restriction. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires the use of a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and re-place.
The value of each Glyph is displayed when you choose it in your inventory. You can choose to replace it with another Glyph with the same rank, or a higher rank, which will increase the overall value of the Glyph.
You can find Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of the Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain unlimited-use gathering tools and also through Faction Crypt raids. Each Faction Crypt could drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.
When you have the desired Glyphs, you will have to put them on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a bonus that will boost the stats of a specific set of nodes within a radius around the Glyph. Based on the Glyph, this will either be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.
Utilizing a Glyph will boost all the nodes that are linked to it, and you should try to place your Glyphs close to key nodes on the Graph to maximize the impact. Druids for instance should position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may also want to consider placing them near their primary damage nodes.
Leveling
The item upgrading system allows players to increase the performance of specific items by putting upgraded components inside them. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item is assigned an amount that determines the final statistics. Upgraded items are able to be leveled up to a maximum level of 385 ilvl. Each level requires a different number of components to reach and the cost of upgrading increase as the item gets leveled up.
Certain upgrades require a specific ingredient to activate. This ingredient can be obtained by making Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or on the upgrade tab in crafting tables. Each Upgrade Recipe completed yields a certain number of Technology points. These points can be used to upgrade the item, and when enough are earned, the upgrade can be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item.
When an individual player upgrades a piece of equipment the original item will be replaced with the new item. The same armor will be upgraded to the form of a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item upgrader kit will also have its own set bonus. This could be a disadvantage since the item may become more expensive even if you do not need it.
Upgrades to items can be rerolled if the player has enough reroll tokens to do so. This will cause the item to be exchanged for a new one, which will have an initial level and a completely different set of bonuses. This can be useful, but should not be repeated often since it could waste resources.
Some upgrades can be rerolled multiple times to increase their value, giving players the ability to alter their gear. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it gives buffs when the player continuously enters or exits water. This item can be upgraded several times by increasing the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. This item is highly useful in PvP. A perfectly rolled version can be worth 50 times the value of the non-upgraded version.
Requirements
Item upgrading allows players to boost the level of their available equipment--armor, weapons, and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by providing the appropriate items and currencies to an item upgrader NPC. Upgrading armor set pieces will also increase the defense base of the piece, whereas upgrading weapons will increase the damage base and the strength and dexterity required to meet the upgraded equipment's requirements.
All items can be upgraded up to five times, except for hero gear, which can be upgraded eight times. Each time you upgrade an item, it is given a chance to fail--the failure rate increases the farther you go beyond the maximum number of upgrades. Failures will result in the item returning to its initial state, which requires the player to purchase more resources than if they had stopped upgrading after the maximum amount.
If an item fails to upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. Additionally, the item will lose any bonuses it gained, including crit chance and attack damage, as well as any other effects that are associated with that effect (for example, increased heal over time or speed of reload). The player will be able to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.
Whenever an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that should a weapon gain an increase in crit chance it will be applied before any increase in attack damage. Slots is a new attribute that was added to item upgrader kit definitions. The value is calculated every time an upgrade occurs.
The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item are determined by its rarity rating and upgrade slot count. The cost for upgrading non-premium items is equal to the base value of the upgrade. For example, a common equipment item may have five upgrades at a cost of 25,600 Technology Points and 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero grade items will come with the lowest cost for each upgrade.
Premium items might have different upgrade requirements from regular gear. For example, they may need less sowels, however they may require more minerals and orons. The player will still need to bring every piece of gear they wish to upgrade to NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine. Each upgrade of equipment requires different amounts of ingredients for upgrading, in addition to the costs mentioned above.
