What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib travel crib (also known as a co-sleeper or bassinet) is a baby crib that can be attached to your adult bed, allowing your newborn to sleep comfortably next to you. It's a method of co-sleeping in a safe manner that doesn't increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing, and can help you bond with your newborn bedside cot.
The cots come with a side which can be lowered so that you can reach your baby easily at night to comfort and feed them. This is especially helpful for mothers who are recovering from a c section. Many of them are foldable or portable, so you can take them on trips and use them as a temporary sleep option for babies who aren't ready to transition to a full-sized cot.
When you are looking for a bedside crib Look for a crib that has a breathable mattress and a cover to shield your baby from stains. You should also buy baby-safe items like a blanket, teether and a soft toy.
If you're looking for a more long-term option, some cribs have conversion kits that let you transform them into a cot bedside or a toddler bed when the time comes. This is great for extending their life and making the transition smoother. Some have a removable section at the top that can be turned into an infant bed. Other models can be used with either a regular adult bed or a high-rise bed. This is a good choice for families who are planning on frequent travel or switching rooms during the night. You should also consider how big your bedroom is to ensure that you can fit the crib in comfortably. Many cribs come with an adjustable riser that can be used to create an inclined position for babies who suffer from reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
The Roomie Glide, a bedside crib travel cot crib manufactured by the English brand Joie is a wonderful addition to their range of high-quality products for babies. The co-sleeper was created to allow parents to bond and sleep side-by-side with their babies, without sharing the same bed. It's loaded with features that make bonding between parent and baby safe, simple, and fun.
One of the key features is a smooth, rocking motion that can be activated at the touch of a button. This gentle rhythm can help soothe your baby to sleep without disrupting their normal sleep patterns. This is ideal for toddlers or older babies who have difficulty settling down. It can also aid with digestive problems like colic and reflux.
The crib can also be attached to the side of the bed by a strap and clip attachment. This makes it stable and secure, allowing you to enjoy a peaceful night's sleep without worrying about your baby rolling off into the middle of the room. The rounded cocoon shape has softly cushioned sides and double mesh windows at both ends to allow plenty of airflow while making sure your baby is safe.
The included mattress is comfortable and firm and includes a washable cover. The lightweight aluminium frame makes the crib very mobile and easy to put together. The four lockable wheels are rubber-covered to ensure that the crib doesn't leave marks on your floor and are easy to move around. The crib is easy to clean due to the wipeable woven fabric and is easily put in a bag for overnight stays.
The TuttiBambini CoZee Air

The airflow mattresses are deluxe and provide an ideal sleeping surface while the ventilation panels keep your baby cool. Unlike some wooden bedside cot cribs which can be a nightmare to clean due to their constant stream of dribble and snot, the Tutti Bambini CoZeeAir comes with a wipe-clean lining and fabric that can be removed to wash in the machine. It also has a top bar which can be easily lowered to allow for feeding at night without the need to juggle zips.
Anna discovered the CoZee to be a safe, cozy sleeping place for her infant. She was pleased that it didn't move like other models, which meant she wasn't disturbed in the night trying to soothe her child to feed. She also loved that the side was lowered so she didn't need to reach out over her partner to lift the baby for feedings at night.
The CoZee comes in charcoal or oak and is a fashionable addition to any bedroom. It's more an expensive piece of furniture than many of the other cribs we've tested, which can appear quite utilitarian. It is also relatively light at 11kg, and comes with a carrying case that allows you to take it with you on vacation or when moving house. The only extras you have to purchase are a fitted waterproof sheet and a co-sleeping safety strap. The instructions and pictures are easy to follow when you first open the box.
The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is a bassinet for infants designed to help parents feel connected with their baby as they sleep. It adjusts upwards and downwards and moves through three slide positions to fit beside the bed of the parent, or in the corner of the room, so that baby is always close at hand. The breathable mesh siding allows air to flow through and lets you glance at your little one. You can also put away extra pajamas or supplies in the large basket underneath.
In contrast to other bedside cribs Iora is a standout among other bedside cribs. Iora can be folded flat and comes with a travel bag to allow it to be taken anywhere. It was easy to move around from room to room, and our mom testers thought it was the right size for a bedside crib. The large storage basket is great for storing extra bedding or nappies.
This is a great option for parents who wish to sleep together but don't want to share their bed. Also, if one of the partners suffers from mobility issues, such as back pain or arthritis. Our mum testers love the convenience of being able to access their baby in the Iora and that it comes with an optional reflux incline to aid in reducing gas.
Our mothers appreciate that the mattress follows NICE guidelines. These are to place the infant in a Moses basket or crib on its own without blankets, toys, pillows etc. The mattress is also sturdy and comfortable for the baby and sheets are easy to find. It isn't as light as the other cribs for bedside use, though, so if you want something lighter and easier to move around with, think about one of the other options on our list.
