This City Mini GT2 features side-by-side seating with plenty of legroom. It also features adjustable reclining, large UPF 50+ canopy and windows that peek out. It also has a clever frame that can expand in width to accommodate a second seat, and also a compatible car seat(s).
Side-by-Side
The majority of the lightweight double pushchairs that we tested were side-by-side models. These are the best for children who can sit up without assistance, since they aren't as likely to have compatibility with car seats. The Thule Urban Glide 2 Double, and Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double, are both excellent choices. They offer recline that can be adjusted for both seats, a large canopy, and padded five-point safety harnesses. They're also easy to maneuver despite their larger footprints, and are ideal for parents worried about fitting into doorways.
The Cybex Duet pushchair is unique because of its clever frame that can be expanded to add a second child seat. This makes it smaller than other pushchairs that are side-by-side. It is able to fit through standard doors and is easy to maneuver on public transport. It can also be used as an jogger which is perfect if you plan to use it in conjunction with an infant car seat or baby carrier.
Another excellent side-by-side lightweight double is the UPPAbaby Vista v2 Double, which allows for even more customization through a modular frame. It's a clever design that lets you turn it into a single stroller or a double by incorporating 2 carrycots or car seats (it can even take twins). It's a great option for families growing. The UPPAbaby umbrella stroller is one of the lightest, most fashionable and stylish strollers available.
If you're looking for a compact lightweight double, try the egg2 which folds down to the size of a compact suitcase. It can be used as a single or double by adding two carrycots or baby car seats. Our home testers were impressed with how easy it was to maneuver, even with a full load of children.
Side-by-side lightweight double pushchairs aren't foolproof, though -when your children are of the same age or at the same stage, they might still argue over who gets to ride in which seat. If they're at different heights, then a tandem style may be ideal for them as it allows them to face each other.
Tandem
While side-by-side models may be better suited for siblings with similar ages, tandem lightweight double pushchairs are a different kind of pushchair with their own appeal. Some can fit an extra car seat, while others come with reversible seats. Others even have an additional carrycot or reclined seat that can be flipped in the middle. They tend to be more spacious and simple to move into and out of however their baskets are usually smaller than the ones on single buggies. They often have larger large canopies that have peekaboo windows, as well as one cup holder for the parent and padded leg cushions for young children.
The iCandy Peach tandem is another great example of a lightweight tandem that is a an excellent value. Its fabrics feel a little less luxurious than our other top-rated doubles, however, it still looks and feels great and is user-friendly. One of the most impressive things about it is its single-handed fold. While it does require practice, Kirstie in our Lab said it's "genius". The carrycot can't be folded while it's attached. However, the mechanism to attach and remove the carrycot is simple and quick.
Tandem lightweight double pushchairs will generally have tighter turns than side-by-side models, however they are more challenging to drive over bumps and uneven surfaces. They may also be slow to accelerate and can be heavier to move, which could put stress on your back.
Another alternative is a convertible double jogging stroller buggy that starts out as an individual and then you can add adapters to make it into a double. It can have a second seat or carrycot on the front or children can be seated side-by-side. Some have the option of adding a buggyboard, which assists an older child to keep pace with a younger brother or sister.
The Uppababy Vista V2 can be transformed into a twin-sized stroller by purchasing additional cocoons for PS59 each. These cocoons provide an open space for infants. They can be placed in a row or joined to each other's faces and you can use them with the infant car seat that comes with the pushchair (as as long as you choose a compatible one). These buggies with dual-use capabilities are made from high-quality materials that can be used for a long time without showing any wear. This means they have an excellent resale value.
Single-to-Double
Ideal for families who love to be outdoors and are looking to upgrade from a single stroller, this lightweight double buggy turns into a jogger thanks to an impressive kit that comes with air-filled tyres as well as all-wheel suspension. It can also withstand rough terrain well and, as a tandem triple is suitable for twins or children of various age groups. It's also a great choice for parents looking for a stylish design that's as sleek as a single, and comes in a variety of colors for the fabric.
This iCandy model is easy to fold with the use of a single hand. And although it's heavier than other single-to-double pushchairs in this review, our home tester Karolina said that it still feels very maneuverable - even when she had two toddlers and a carrycot inside.
The seat can be used parent-facing and you can purchase additional accessories for this stroller, such as the Roma Gemini carrycots (PS100 each) that are perfect for infants. Our test panel found the seats were comfortable for toddlers and had good headrests and lumbar support. There are plenty of options for reclining, with the front seat being adjustable to different positions and the rear seat offering a recline option.
The biggest drawback with this type of buggy is that it's generally wider overall than side-by-side doubles, which makes it harder to navigate through doorways and can be tricky to manoeuvre up and down kerbs. However, the wheels and suspension are generally able to perform well in coping with paved surfaces and the fact that they're usually significantly lighter than the side-bysides means that you still find plenty of storage space. It's important to keep in mind that strollers of this type aren't as good at walking through the narrow aisles of supermarkets and aren't able to handle a large amount of shopping. It's a little easier to turn them around even on the smallest of curving paths however, even this can be difficult. Some are easier to turn than others, such as the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or the Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.
Convertible
The best lightweight double stroller thing about convertible double pushchairs is that they can adapt to changing family needs. They are typically single buggies. They come with adapters that allow you to add a second child's seat, a carrycot, or (in certain instances) an automobile seat to the frame. Some can even convert back to a single buggie when your child grows older and begins to walk or prefers to ride on a buggy board.

The home testers loved the spacious canopy that has windows that can be seen from the outside with multi-position reclining seats as well as front and rear suspensions for smoother rides on rough terrain. This multi-functional tandem is the top choice of our home testers because it is easy to maneuver and has a large basket for shopping that is accessible from both seats when in the parent-facing positions. Its extremely lightweight weight (about the same as a few single pushchairs) makes it easy to move around. Its reversible seats mean that you can flip them to face either way, and the clever way that it attaches a second seat or riding board to the rear is appreciated by many. Parents also appreciated the fact that it can accommodate infant carriers and car seat from various brands. This includes some that are not normally compatible with other double buggies.
