World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it could increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.
The process of upgrading gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a specific amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its base stats are increased in value. The value is the sum of all its leveled up advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly dependent on the upgrader and what type of upgrade you choose to do. This is because of how many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It is also used as a gating requirement while waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is restricted to a lower level). Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell gear players can evaluate the item level. It's a measure of the item's damage and its quality. The level of an item can be used to compare items when evaluating a vendor's inventory.
On PC, you can check the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. It can also be found by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are various theories on how the calculation of an item's level is carried out. One theory suggests that the item level is calculated by a formula that calculates the worth of an item's stats actually are. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different worth and sockets have gems that increase the item's overall value. This process could result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl which is usually close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.
However, this isn't the only factor which can affect an item's ilvl since the size of the area the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, for example by adding a level to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.
Item Stats
Item stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in various ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the Best item upgrade." The stat modifications of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's skill.
Upgrades to the item add by increasing certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. For example, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, while items with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times, at higher costs.
Another way to change the stats of an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can provide the item extra damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving the dead or decreasing the duration of cooldowns), or make the Best item upgrader unique by adding a special name to the item.
At present, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circles arrows. It will cost a set amount of gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, just like the other rerolling methods.
In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can also choose which stats to keep on an item upgrading when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item are based on the level of the item, however all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within that range, unless it is an exclusive item or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.
This is another thing that could be changed by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or selecting which stats to boost. As with base equipment, it must be done per item, and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the odds of finding items as well as the properties that appear on loot drops, and the intensity of these properties. It does not, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is more beneficial in early game runs since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chance of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading that increase with each new level of item. They can also be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons come with a default Luck value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to boost the luck of the item up to 140.
Moreover some items, such as the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow, can be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items are available from the shop, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.
Item Failure
Item upgrades are a costly process and not all upgrades will succeed. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item in the event that it fails.
When you upgrade an item, the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading that item, and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased as much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%..
The Luck of an item may affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have an overall success rate of 25 percent, and each item with Luck increases this chance by five percent.
Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects may be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
