World of Warcraft - Item Upgrade
Item upgrade allows players to raise the item level of equippable weapons and armor. This improves the power of the equipment, in addition to sometimes adding buffs or the rerolling of an affix.
It is important to remember that upgrading common gear isn't always worth the cost. Rare and Unique equipment will quickly surpass the standard gear and upgraded magic.
Cost
If a player wants to upgrade an item, they must spend Gold to upgrade the item. The cost of upgrading an item is dependent on its current level and the upgrade type selected. For example upgrading a weapon will typically be cheaper than upgrading armor because weapons have lower requirements for level. The amount of Gold required increases when the item is upgraded to an upper level.
Upgraded items will also have improved stats that can improve its performance in a variety of ways. This could mean increasing the power of its attack, critical strike chance, or damage per second. A upgraded item can also provide additional buffs to the unit it's equipped with. These upgrades are able to be used to boost a variety of purposes for example, to increase the overall strength of a group or individual unit. They also can be a significant influence on the gameplay.
The NPC for upgrading items can be found in the game. Typically these NPCs are found in capital cities or major questing locations. Players can also find upgraders in dungeons that have high-level bosses, and by talking to NPCs in their garrisons for their faction.
The World of Warcraft item upgrade system lets players increase the level of armor, weapons and trinkets. This procedure is similar to the gear reforging process in Mists of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor. However instead of using currency, players need to visit an upgrader for their item to complete the process.
Upgrades can be costly, especially for weapons and armor. Based on the upgrade track you choose, each item upgrade can cost Valorstones or Crests. The cost can be prohibitive for those who do not have the funds or are unable to grind.
Fortunately, the game allows players to roll an upgraded item using a special tool in the menu of items. This option will replace the upgraded item with an unlevel 1 version that offers different bonus effects. This is useful to improve the roll of items that are already upgraded. However, it can be a waste of time.
Requirements
Upgrading is the process of increasing the level of items that can be equipped such as trinkets, weapons, and armor. This can increase their power which makes them more powerful in battle. Players can upgrade their gear by spending appropriate currencies at an item upgrader NPC. However, they should be aware that some upgrades have specific requirements.
Early upgrades increase the effectiveness of the item's base level. Later upgrades give significant enhancements. For example, upgrading a weapon from three to level six can increase the weapon's damage by plus two levels. In addition the upgraded item will receive a bonus stat, which is based on the tier it's in. The bonus is a combination of a guaranteed additional substat as well as a random stat that will change in value from upgrade to upgrade.
Reroll Tokens can be used to reroll an item that has been upgraded. The new item will feature a different set of extra bonuses as well as a lower level of base item. The rerolled item will also have different requirements for strength and dexterity. It is important to keep in mind that the item rerolled does not retain its original level or even a fraction of its resources.
Rerolling some upgraded items is only possible if the item was upgraded was Epic, Rare or Unique. Exceptional items are also eligible for rerolling, but their original stats will be replaced with a flat bonus. This means that rerolling a Rare item will result in a Normal version the same type, whereas the rerolling of an Epic item will result in an Elite version of the same kind.
Upgraded items can come with additional modifiers that can improve their performance and boost their stats. These additional modifiers don't come with the upgrade cost. They can be acquired through the questing process, purchasing them from the Trading Post or from other players. Alternatively, they can be earned by completing certain missions in the game.

While upgrading isn't expensive, it is an excellent way to increase your stats without having to spend as much time fighting. It is important to understand the benefits and costs prior to investing your time or money.

It is also possible to recover any or all of the upgrade components from an item by using a high-end salvage kit, which is offered by Black Lion Salvage and Ascended Salvage. However, this does not include legendary equipment and upgrades which can be retrieved using an Upgrade Extractor or recovering them through the appropriate merchant of karma.
Rewards
Item upgrading rewards players with a number of items and currencies. Every upgrade has a chance of granting an unspecified stat bonus. The value of the bonus is different for each upgrade, and it's usually more expensive for rarer items.
