World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
The upgrade option lets players increase the gear rating of an item upgrade by up 700 points and also add a bonus. Items can be upgraded if they are in your inventory and you decide to take them to the Kiln.
Certain items are worth upgrading because of their unique stats. (For instance, a perfectly broken point armor that is rolled can be used in melee PvP). Other items like weapons aren't changed much after an upgrade and aren't worth it.
Weapons
Weapons can be upgraded to increase their numeric stats like crit chance, attack damage PvE and damage from PvP. Weapons have a flat-rate bonus that increases damage per second. Many weapons also come with a fixed bonus that is activated when three or more identical weapons are equipped in a group. In some cases this bonus could amount to more than the amount of damage that a weapon can sustain on its own.
The cost of upgrading a weapon is based on the rarity of the weapon and its current level. For example an item with a rating of +2 will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while an upgrade of +3 requires four. The number of stones required to upgrade a gun will increase until it needs an upgrade to a higher level of Smithing Stones. At that point it will reset to one.
Upgrades to weapons will also alter the stats of their base. While this is usually beneficial but it can also have negative consequences as well. For items that are only used in a particular build (Whistant's shield for FB sorcs for instance) upgrading them could make them unusable unless you have an extremely lucky roll.
The ability to upgrade armor items to boost their performance. In the case of chests or helms this will increase its base defense while gloves and belts increase their strength and dexterity. Armor also has the option of rerolling its Enhanced Defense%, meaning that it could reroll to a lower value.
The upgrade template for a weapon shows the new stats that it will get when upgraded in addition to their relative values. This means that the weapon will gain 3% attack damage if it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. However the 3% difference doesn't mean that it will be hit 3 times less often because it's an absolute number.
Rerolling a weapon is possible by pressing the green button in the item menu using the arrows that are circling. The Best item upgrade will be rerolled and change its statistics, but it will not reset the weapon's levels, or tie it to the account status.
Armor
A few upgrades to your armor can make a huge difference to your survival. Certain sets can provide MASSIVE improvements in the resistance to curses, poison, fire, and magic. This can make it easier to navigate difficult terrains. In general, the greater defense you have for your character, the greater health you'll gain from each point. Therefore, it is recommended to upgrade your armor.
You can upgrade your armor by visiting any of the Great Fairy Fountains. There are four fountains in all, and each requires you to complete a specific side quest involving the Stable Trotters musical troupe. Once you've done the main side quest and have completed the fountain that corresponds you'll be able to contact any Great Fairy to open up the menu for upgrading your armor.
The amount of materials required to upgrade each piece of armor will differ. You'll require anything between three Red Chuchu jelly and 10 Rupees to upgrade the initial armor piece, and anywhere between five Rubies or 10 Fire-Breath Horns to upgrade each subsequent one. For example, the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, allowing you to keep pace with a decent-sized group of enemies in most cold environments, and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded all the way to +20 defense, granting the protection needed to survive a full on raid with a handful of friends.
You can't upgrade armor the same as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior, you should focus on upgrading your armor to increase physical power or the power of spells. It is also recommended to save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor that you'll still wear at the end of the story, for example the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you'll wear in the final boss fight the Monter Parts Merchant Mask.
You can also get some benefits to your armor by presenting the jeweler at Gerudo Town 10 Twinkling Titanite. Generally speaking, you'll want to save these upgrades for the weapon you'll use to win the game such as the Longsword, Battleaxe or Warhammer, but it can be beneficial to have a few upgrades to your helmets and chest armor that let you stealthy battle some monsters.
Potions
Potions are liquid substances that, if consumed, provide the user with a temporary status effect. There are five kinds of potions, each with a specific set of effects and durations. Certain potions can be upgraded to increase their effectiveness. Additionally the effects of some potions can be enhanced by adding redstone or glowstone dust the potions.
Potion upgrades require a certain amount XP. This can be earned through crafting them on a craft table or by storing them in the Alchemist chest. The price of upgrades changes depending on what type of potion you want to upgrade, and also on the item's Mark Level as well as its rarity.
To upgrade a potions simply right-click on it in your inventory. Select "Upgrade" from the menu. This will open an GUI which allows you to select the potions that you would like to upgrade and the amount of experience they'll give you when upgraded. You can upgrade potions in batches up to five at once, and their XP will be added to the total XP you have.

Trinkets

Upgrading a trinket is an affordable alternative to buying a new one. A player can upgrade a trinket for just 12 tokens. The new trinket will feature the same base ilvl as the old one, and will have an additional upgrade bonus of 1.
When the old Trinkets are no longer usable they can be upgraded. This allows players to increase their power and value over time. They can also be traded between players and are an extremely popular alternative to gold.
Players should upgrade their most essential items first. This usually means the Best item upgrade-in-slot items for their class, followed by their secondary items and finally, other gear items that will not be replaced soon (for instance rings or cloaks). When deciding on which items to upgrade players should be aware of the class's preferred stats. For instance, if Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for tanks it is recommended that they upgrade their chest, helm shoulders, belt, and chest.
Trinkets can be upgraded to a higher ilvl once they're no longer needed and the new trinket will receive an additional bonus of 1% for upgrading. Re-upgrading will destroy the trinket unless it can be salvaged using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or a higher tier salvage tool. Upgrades to trinkets can be more expensive than other upgrades but still cheaper than buying a new one.
