WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades can give you boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.
The more modernized gear generally has a more value in trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for those with higher variance due to the need to roll the perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.
The upgrader is located in all major cities and is accessible anytime to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every couple of weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.
Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item however, they are always cheaper than buying new gear. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar Best item upgrader will cost you 105.

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them from NPCs of item upgraders in a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool with a button, which will display an item's preview when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials.
Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item level upgrade and the current item level. For instance weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they only have one use. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear that you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which will only be able to avail the discount for all accounts when all slots are full of high-quality gear.
