EV Star
GreenPower Motor Company produces a complete line of high-floor and low-floor all-green power electric scooter medium and heavy-duty vehicles. Their flagship vehicle is the EV Star Cab & Chassis platform, which can accommodate many different bodies and upfits for a variety of applications. The platform's design is based on a simple paper that allows for the best placement of the battery pack and a lower center-of-gravity. This results in higher range/payload ratios.
The EV Star REEFERX was designed for mid-to last mile refrigerated deliveries as well as catering applications. The refrigerated trucks of class 4' one interior wall structure and a higher insulation level than conventional trucks, enable seamless sanitation and Power Mobility scooter better temperature control. They also have a longer service life. The EV Star REEFERX has a higher capacity for cargo, and an industry-leading payload to reach the range of zero-emission transport of passengers or goods.
GreenPower has collaborated with Perrone Robotics to up-fit the EV Star with their TONY (To Navigate You) autonomous vehicle system. This will allow fleets to seamlessly change to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star will also be able to support wireless charging of 75 kW.
We were allowed to test drive the EV9 on the local highway for a few hours, and found it to be easy to drive, and comfortable to drive long distances. The EV9 can block the sound of traffic and wind driving on the highway. It rides smoothly over ruts and humps. The acceleration is quite quick and the vehicle has adjustable regenerative braking that allows "one pedal driving" by simply lifting off of the accelerator.
The EV9 offers a great range and can be charged in just three hours or less at home, or with any commercial charger. Drivers can select between two modes of operation that include eco mode and sports mode. Eco mode focuses on the torque and cruise control, as well as handling while sport mode focuses on speed. Both are fun to drive and provide an unique experience for anyone who has never been in an green electric scooter vehicle before.
In addition to the EV9, GreenPower has several other e-vehicles available, including a multi-purpose electric minibus called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA compliant and electric Power scooters can be used as an executive shuttle, micro-transit, transit bus, vanpool or paratransit vehicle.
GreenPower is currently producing around 10 EV Star buses a month for the Jacksonville Transit Authority, which is working to replace their fleet of diesel vehicles with 100 fully electric vehicles. GreenPower will increase production to meet the demands of the Biden Administration, which is looking to electrify all school buses in America. Their EV Star buses are the first of their kind to be Altoona tested and FMVSS certified, Buy America compliant, and ADA conforming. This means they'll be eligible for federal transit assistance grants. Keep an eye on us as we follow the AV Star on its demonstration tour later in the year. We will share more details on this exciting EV.
