GreenPower Motor Company manufactures a complete line of medium- and green mobility scooter power mobility power scooters (continue reading this..) heavy-duty electric vehicles, which include lower-floor and high-floor models. The EV Star Cab & Chassis is their most popular vehicle and it can be customized to suit a variety of applications. The platform's clean sheet design allows the best battery pack placement and lower center of gravity, which results in better payload-to-range ratios.
The EV Star REEFERX is designed to be used for mid to last mile refrigerated delivery and catering. The refrigerated trucks in class 4' one interior wall structure and a higher insulation level than traditional trucks, enable seamless sanitation and better temperature control. They also have a longer life span. The EV Star REEFERX provides superior cargo capacity and a top payload-to-range ratio for zero emission passenger transport and goods.
GreenPower has joined forces with Perrone Robotics to up-fit the EV Star with their TONY (To Navigate You) autonomous vehicle system. This will allow fleets to easily move to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star is also capable of wireless charging up to 75 kW.
We had the chance to test drive the EV9 for several hours on a local freeway, and found it to be easy to drive and comfortable for long distances. The EV9 can block road noise and wind while on the highway. It glides effortlessly over bumps and ruts. The car's acceleration is surprisingly fast, and it comes with adjustable regenerative brakes that allow "one-pedal driving" simply by lifting off the accelerator.
The EV9 provides a large range and can be recharged within three hours or less at home, or by using any commercial charger. The driver can select from two operating modes: eco mode and sport mode. Eco mode prioritizes torque, cruise control and handling while sport mode maximizes speed. Both are fun to drive and offer a unique driving experience for anyone who has not driven an electric vehicle before.
GreenPower offers several other eVehicles, including a multipurpose all-electric wheel scooter minibus, called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA-compliant and can be used as executive shuttles, microtransit and transit buses, vanpools, or paratransit vehicles.
GreenPower is currently producing around 10 EV Star buses a month for the Jacksonville Transit Authority, which is working to replace their fleet of older diesel vehicles with 100 all-electric vehicles. With the Biden Administration aiming to electrify schools across the nation, GreenPower plans on ramping production to meet demand. Their EV Star buses are the first of their kind to be Altoona tested and FMVSS-certified, Buy America compliant, and ADA conforming. This will make them eligible for federal transit grants. We will be following the AV Star as it makes its public demonstration tour later this year. We'll be sure to share more details on this innovative EV!
