For those who want to experience the delicious coffee brews that come from a standard maker, you should consider either a pour-over or moka pot. They're more expensive, but they produce the most delicious cup of coffee from any machine we tested.
Pods or K-Cups
If you're shopping for a single cup coffee machines coffee machine you've probably heard of the terms K-Cup and pods. But do you know the difference? This is a crucial distinction as some brands use these terms interchangeably. Some brands refer to their k cups as coffee pods. This is a misrepresentation.
The good news is that both k-cups as well as coffee pods are both great options for a single coffee maker. The choice is based on personal preference and budget. Pods are greener than k-cups. Because coffee pods are made of paper and are biodegradable, they're able to be recycled. This means that they can decompose quickly, which is more sustainable than plastic k-cups.
Coffee pods also offer more flavors than k-cups, and could be more appealing to some. Additionally they are also less expensive than K-cups. This makes them a more appealing option for those with limited budgets.
K-cups, or small plastic cups, contain the tea or coffee grounds used to make. The cup is sealed by the machine when it is inserted into the K-cup Brewer. The machine then punctures a hole through the top and bottom of the cup to allow hot water to flow through and saturate the grounds. After the brew cycle has been completed, the user can simply lift the handle and the pod will be automatically removed from a receptacle that is attached.
The ease of use of K-Cups make them a very popular choice. They're easily accessible and have a consistent taste, making them popular among Keurig users. They're also a great choice for those with a limited space in their breakrooms since they're compact and take up less space than other single pod coffee-cup options like drip or pour-over coffee maker.
Pods have a smaller size than k-cups, and a flat surface to allow them to fit into the filter basket of the machine. The pods of coffee can contain whole beans, unlike k-cups. This is an important benefit for those who wish to control the amount of coffee they brew, as well as those who prefer a stronger taste.
Brewing Options
There's a machine for everyone, regardless of whether you prefer the convenience of pod-brewed brews like those from Keurig or Nespresso or prefer to pick your own beans and modify their strength. Some single coffee brewers use heat and pressure to pressurize the water by using an internal water pump as it flows through the filter before brewing. This is less expensive than a drip device, but can produce a coffee that has less flavor. Be sure to avoid using the water that's too hot, or it could cause damage to the internal workings of your brewer.
