Three Wheeled Buggies

Three-wheeled buggies are great for walking around the neighborhood or jogging. Their compact design makes them easy to manoeuvre even in tight spaces.

If you want an easy ride in your baby, select models with 360deg front wheels that can swivel. They are prone, however to punctures. Make sure you have a repair set.

Sturdy frame

Recent figures have been released showing that the three-wheeled vehicle which was a symbol of the decade of more money than sanity - is in steep decline. Four-wheelers are replacing them, and are more versatile and easy to drive and look elegant.

The general idea is that the bigger the wheels are, the easier it'll be for your buggy to cope with rough ground and bumpy pavements. With larger wheels front and back makes it much easier to manoeuvre and more stable when walking downhill or on difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy with a newborn as well as a best 3 wheel buggy year old and found it was able to handle cobbles, grass, rough roads, dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said that "it is solid to push and very solid when you're on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need periodic pumping) come with suspension built-in that was very comfortable for my kids.

The size and shape of the seat is another thing to consider. You will want it to be large enough to accommodate your child's comfort and you will also need it to recline so that they can lie flat. Certain three-wheel buggies have the option of reclining completely, while others allow the parent to be facing one.

The Roma Atlas is a great alternative for off-road or wet walks. The buggy can be used as a one-person unit from birth and then adapts to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for toddlers and infants from birth until age 4, and comes with a bumper, raincover, an improved 5-point harness, and a large cushioned seat. The storage options are great as well, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets on the hood, and an attractive pouch at the back of the seat unit.

Larger wheels

Larger wheels will give your buggy greater stability when driving on rough terrain. This is ideal for off-road buggies. They also make it easier to navigate the pushchair through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have rotating front wheels that assist you in maneuvering around corners with ease, whereas others are specifically designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability with the speed at which they can be pushed. This is particularly useful when you crash into trees or a kerb. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to prevent hitting it.

A majority of 3 wheel stroller brands wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres that allow them to navigate a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They are also lighter. They are more prone to punctures, so you'll require a repair kit and spare inner tube in your arsenal.

Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and the Venicci Carbo lux are among our top 3-wheelers. These buggies, as per MFM's Kath, have larger wheels that, she says "perform well on gravel roads, grass and market town cobbles", and can easily climb or descend kerbs. The buggies also come with a suspension that according to Kath "smooths out bumps very effectively".

The downside of having larger wheels is that they can make some buggies quite wide and may struggle to squeeze through narrow spaces. This can be a problem if you use it as a jogger or have to squeeze through doorways that are narrow while on the move. Luckily, most models have compact folding options that let you take off the front wheels for more compact storage.

Easy to manoeuvre

One of the major advantages to a three-wheeled buggy is that it's much easier to maneuver, especially with a child in tow. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels be turned on a dime and are easy to maneuver, making them perfect for difficult terrain like parks, cobblestones and bumpy roads. dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tested a 3 wheel all terrain pushchair wheeler with her toddler and newborn and said: "The Terrain was a pleasure to maneuver over tough ground with the swivel rear wheel being especially helpful. I was also awed by how well it dealt with kerbs using the hand-operated break. It was extremely stable when in the downhills or on a rough terrain."

The only drawback to this great maneuverability is that the three wheel buggy's larger wheels do sometimes mean that it will struggle in tight spaces, something to keep in mind especially if you live in a urban area. If this is an issue, a 4-wheel buggy might be a better option for you.
