World of Warcraft - Item Upgrade
The upgrade of items allows players to raise the item level of equippable weapons and armor. This boosts the stats of that equipment, in addition to sometimes adding buffs or rolling an affix again.

The amount of Gold required for upgrading increases when the item is upgraded to an upper level.
The upgraded items will also have upgraded stats that will improve its performance in a variety of ways. This can include boosting its attack power or critical strike chance. The upgraded item can also provide additional buffs to the unit it is equipped with. These upgrades can be used for a number of reasons, including to boost the overall strength of a particular or group unit. They can also affect the overall gameplay.
Items can be upgraded at any item upgrader NPC in the game. Typically these NPCs are found in major cities or questing locations. You can also find upgrades for items by visiting dungeons that have high-level bosses, and speaking to NPCs at the garrisons of your faction.
The World of Warcraft item upgrade system lets players improve the quality of armor, weapons and trinkets. This process is very similar to that of gear reforging in Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor however instead of using the appropriate currency, players must visit an item upgrader NPC to complete the process.
Upgrades can be costly particularly for weapons and armor. Depending on which upgrade track you choose, each item level upgrade upgrade can cost Valorstones or Crests. The cost are prohibitive for those who do not have the money or are unwilling to grind.

A player can Reroll an upgraded item using a Reroll Token to exchange the upgrade for a new version. The new item will feature a different set of extra bonuses, as well as an lower base level. The rerolled item will also have different requirements for dexterity and strength. It is important to keep in mind that the rerolled item will not retain its original level or any wasted resource.
Rerolling upgraded items is only possible if the item was upgraded was Epic, Rare, or Unique. Exceptional items can also be rerolled, but the original stats are replaced with a flat-rate bonus. Time is a factor.

Rewards
The upgrading of items provides players with currency and a variety of items. In addition, every upgrade has a chance to give a random stat bonus. During the upgrade, an item will slowly grow closer to the next level but it is not always able to reach its fully upgraded bar. This process is based on Growthstones and Sollant however there is a chance of getting an upgraded item within just one cycle. The higher the level an item is upgraded to the higher its boosted stat value and the more items it can upgrade into.
Upgrade components can be slotted into armor, weapons, and trinkets in order to give an attribute benefit or an additional effect when the equipment is in use. Some upgrade components also come with cosmetic effects. Upgrade components are available through crafting, purchasing from vendors or the Trading Post, looting or receiving them as gifts. Players can also recover upgraded items using an Upgrade extractor or salvaging with a high-tier salvage kit. Glyphs that are positioned on tools for gathering can be swapped freely.
By selecting the item and pressing the green button with a a rerolling arrow, a player can roll it into an upgradeable item. This will change the layout of the game and allow players to select up to six items to be used for "recycling". The item will be replaced with an item upgrades of level 1. Recycled items won't keep their level, or the resources used to upgrade it.
The maximum upgrade level of an item is determined by the item's tier and its quality. Common items can be upgraded up to an maximum of level six, while Rare and Epic items can be upgraded up to level nine. The upgrade of an item is added to the base statistics of the item. This means that they will not increase in the future after a certain level.
