WoW Upgrades - The item level upgrade Upgrader
Upgrades give you boost in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. A random substat is also increased with each upgrade.
The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The Best item upgrade upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the Best item upgrade used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.
You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up to date.
Upgrades will cost more, based on the item level, however, they are always cheaper than purchasing new equipment. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are useful items which can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. Players can purchase them from NPCs of Item Upgrader Kit upgraders for a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show a preview of an item's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.
The upgrade cost depends on the item upgrade slot and the current level of the item as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item upgrader mod has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.
Many locations offer item upgraders in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.
Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require various methods which is both an improvement and a drawback.
In Season 3 the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with numerous new features added. After the player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is true even if the items come from another set of gear.
The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced too, but it is only available once certain milestones are achieved.
Crests
Players have a variety of choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. They can make use of Flightstones which are a common upgrade currency available to all, or crests, which are more specialized and consumed during upgrades at specific levels of items. Crests are an important component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.
Another important change is that crests have one usage therefore it's essential to use them wisely. For instance, it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment available and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to create. This is especially relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount for the entire account will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
