Components
In computer technology the term "hardware" or software" refers to a hardware upgrade replaces an older version with a fresher version that comes with more features or functions. Upgrades are typically made to make a computer system faster and more reliable, or capable of handling higher amounts of data. Hardware upgrades include hard disk drives as well as motherboards. Computer upgrades should always be compatible with the specifications of the computer that is being upgraded.
In Guild Wars 2, upgrade items are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons and trinkets in order to provide an attribute bonus or additional effect while the equipment is being used. To be accepted as a component, an item must have an upgrade slot that is open and be at or above a specified level.
Components can be purchased from vendors in Night City, obtained by disassembling items that aren't working, or found randomly in the world. Unlike weapons and gear, components can be purchased from vendors even if they are not level-appropriate or high-leveled.
There are a variety of components. Universal upgrades (such as gems) can be put on all equipment, but they offer less bonuses than those restricted to a specific kind. Jewels are only available in trinkets. They also offer a greater bonus than any other upgrade.
Inscriptions are special upgrade items that can only be placed inside the trinket. They can be used to boost the multiplier of experience. They can be extremely useful for min/maxing a character because they are fairly inexpensive to obtain, but they are not stacked with other experience modifiers.
Infusions can be incorporated into armor that is non-ascended and legendaries as well as other non-legendary items. You can retrieve them using the tool to extract them or salvaging them with the Ascended Rescue Tool. It is important to remember that upgrading an item using infusions will result in the item having a unique name. For instance, if you add an infusion of a Rune of Minor Vigor on a Tyrian Armor, it will display the name "Radiant Tyrian Armor." Similarly, an inscription on a weapon will show up in its hover display as an Inscribed Weapon.

Glyphs are items that enhance the substatus of a piece of equipment. They can be found in a variety of places, but the most common is finishing Nightmare Dungeons or Helltides. They are also available through the Faction Crypts. Glyphs in the crypts only be available to specific classes, so make sure to claim only ones that will work for your character. Some items that are dropped have an initial glyph that will automatically upgrade whenever you improve the item. This only applies to the original enchantment not the glyph you manually crafted on the item. Glyphs that are automatically upgraded will always be higher rank than the glyph that you hand-crafted on the item.
Glyphs of Insight are an important part of the crafting system used in the Last Epoch. They allow you to change prefixes into an affix that is experimental on boots, gloves and belts. Sets
If an upgrade item is placed on a specific or set item, it will give the set item a bonus. These bonuses can differ depending on the type of upgrade. When an upgrade is placed on an armored set or ring, it will give a bonus to def, whereas a weapon upgrade will increase the damage of the aoe.
