The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention. It will leave your floors clean. Its surprisingly affordable price and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are pluses.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they utilize smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. The robots also have a feature called Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in removing dog hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our top option. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good value for those whose office or home has a lot of bare floors and you want to save some money. It's also quiet and operates while you are at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you have to change the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and offer better cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross-contamination. The flex arm is ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the task of cleaning a whole home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was great and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming it, something we've not seen on other robot vacuum cleaners reviews vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the bulky units of the competition. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored 100% in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and a little more cost it's a efficient two-in-one device that should satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd imagine from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot vacuum cleaners uk mop cleaners that we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it is more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we've examined. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
