They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot's performance when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.
Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of an area.
It's still a good value particularly if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you want to save money. It's also extremely quiet and operates when you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and offer better cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.
It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted room, which helps prevent cross-contamination. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the bulky models of the competition. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has 100% in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with a simple mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to sleep.
It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and some additional cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot cleaner robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas are.
For bigger homes it's worth looking for models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have number of furniture. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be extremely useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the robot vacuum cleaners uk mop cleaners that we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map.
