They can be used to improve the abilities of the character, or can add an additional aspect of variety to the build.

The upgrade system in World of Warcraft allows players to upgrade the quality of their gear by spending currencies at an item upgrader NPC. This system first came into play in Mists of Pandaria, and continued with Warlords of Draenor. It's a great way to boost the level of your equipment, which lets you to skip the grind and avoid the countless wipes in Mythicand Dungeons.

When an item upgrading is improved, its base type will change. The upgrade of a normal Best Item Upgrader creates an Exceptional item and upgrading an Exceptional item will create an Elite version of the base item. The item will retain its pre-upgrade stats, and will gain an extra bonus from its new base type. The bonus will be randomly selected from the following categories: a chance to obtain a weapon with an increased damage range or an increased reload speed or a chance to acquire an improved defense roll.

The amount of extras that you gain when upgrading depends on the number of upgrades done. Each upgrade will increase the extras in question by a factor of one up to a maximum of 3. Additionally, every upgrade will also increase the stat that is used to determine the main one by 1.

In addition to the stat increases certain upgrades can also give a random secondary boost. These boosts are useful and should be taken into consideration when deciding on which items to upgrade. Certain of these boosts may only be used in specific designs (such a Whistan's Shield for FB Sorcs) While others are useful to collectors.

Some items have a built-in boos which is less beneficial when upgraded. For example, the Goldwrap offers an additional potion slot. They are usually upgraded to add value to an item that is perfect or close to being perfect.

Costs

Upgrades are accompanied by some associated costs. The first is the upgrade itself. This cost depends on the item's new ilvl and the amount of perks it receives, and can be expensive. It can also be costly to upgrade an item to a higher tier (such as Explorer > Champion or Veteran > Heroic).

The other is the cost of the materials required to upgrade. These items are typically Power Dices (dropped from monsters 21+), Minerals and Erons or specific Mists of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor Quests. These items can be found in the inventory of an Upgrade Vendor.

It takes time to upgrade an item. It can take 8 hours, depending on the magnitude of the upgrade. The stats that are the base of the upgraded item are calculated based upon its new ilvl and other properties. This calculation determines the new Armor Class bonus, damage dice, and other important stats. In certain cases upgrades can provide additional perks. These perks are offered in a list.

Rarely, the new advantages acquired will cost more than one perk slot to acquire In these cases, the upgrade will only replace the most expensive perks. Sometimes, the upgrader may make other changes to an item, such as changing its weapon damage type or adding or removing an unwieldy or operative property. The cost of these changes is determined by the new ilvl of the item, and it could require a special material like adamantine alloy.

Success Rate

Upgrades to items are based on a chance, and like any random system there is an opportunity that the upgrade won't be successful. There are a few ways to increase the chances of success. This includes using an item dubbed an Upgrade Pity or the addition of extra components to the upgrade.

An Upgrade Pity is an item you can purchase from the smithing NPC in Lost Ark. It increases the chances of an upgrade's success by some percentage. It is similar to the luck bonus that certain items offer however it is more reliable. It can be added to any armor or weapon and can be used up to three times.

You can also add additional materials to the upgrade to increase the chance of success. These are shown in a separate window, above the + button. There are some limitations. The maximum amount of material you can add is shown directly above the + button.

A Blacksmith Blessing or an upgraded version thereof can be used to increase the odds of an upgrade succeeding. This item is beneficial if you have an item of equipment that has reached the highest level for its tier or is close to it. This item allows you to upgrade the equipment to the next level without the risk of it breaking.

If an upgrade fails it will be restored to its initial state. This is usually a break, but it could also be a downgrade. Keep an upgrade in reserve until you're close to the highest level for an item.

There are many items in the Kafra shop that can be used to boost the odds of an upgrade succeeding. The higher the rank, the more zeny and items you'll require to upgrade it.

This system can be quite expensive, particularly for high-end gear. It could cost as high as 100,000 z and 100 Carnium to upgrade a weapon or armor. The success rate also decreases as you go up in rank. However, you can utilize cash shop items to increase your chances of upgrading your item successfully.

You must have the proper number of cores in order to perform a normal upgrade. Click the button next to the item you wish to upgrade once you've got the cores. The upgrade window will show an indicator of the percentage of your odds of success. The percentage is based on the upgrade level and kind of item you have selected.

You can also opt for an insurance policy that will safeguard your equipment in the event of a failure. The cost of this protection will vary but will always be less expensive than the cost of a new item. The protection can be used only once per upgrade, and it is not a valid expiry date unless it is used again.

The interface for the item upgrader can be a bit confusing, but isn't impossible to navigate. The main menu is located on the left and the upgrade window is located on the right. The arrows on the left of the UI indicate the various steps during the upgrade process. Click the question mark icon to get assistance if you're unsure what you're doing. The upgrade process can take as long as five minutes.
