World of Warcraft - Item Upgrade
Item upgrades allow players to raise the item level of equippable weapons and armor. This improves the effectiveness of the equipment, in addition to sometimes adding buffs or rerolling an affix.
It is important to note that although you can upgrade magic and other common equipment, it's generally not worth it. Rare and unique gear can quickly outperform the standard equipment and upgraded magic.
Cost
When a player decides to upgrade an item, they have to spend Gold to do so. The cost of upgrading an item is dependent on its current level as well as the upgrade type chosen. Upgrades to weapons are generally cheaper than upgrades for armor because weapons have lower requirements. The amount of Gold required for upgrading an item increases as the item is upgraded.
Upgraded items also come with improved stats that can improve its performance in various ways. This could mean increasing the power of its attack, critical strike chance, or damage per second. Additionally an upgraded item could be able to offer additional bonuses to its equipped unit. The upgrade system for items in World of Warcraft provides players with the ability to upgrade the levels of armor, weapons and trinkets. This process is similar to the gear reforging process in Mists of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor. However, instead of using currency, players have to visit an item upgrader to complete the process.
Upgrades can be expensive especially for weapons and armor. Depending on the upgrade track each step up in level of the item could cost many Valorstones and crests. The total cost could be a major burden for players who don't have the resources or are unable to grind them.
Fortunately the game lets players play a reroll of an upgraded item by using an exclusive tool within the menu of items. This option allows you to exchange the upgraded item with a level 1 version that has an additional set of bonus effects. This is a great way to improve the roll of items which are already upgraded. However, it could be a waste of time.

Some exceptional items are also eligible for rerolling, but their original stats will be replaced with a flat bonus.
