Buying a Pram Newborn
Prams and twin pushchairs are multi-functional, flexible companions of caregivers and parents. They are the co-pilots on the new journey of your child.
A pram newborn is dedicated to newborns and babies and has a deep, sturdy carrycot that has soft and secure walls.
A pram comes with a bassinet, but it can be converted to a stroller when the baby is ready.
Safety
Newborns must be protected to the greatest extent possible. A stroller or pram that has safety features will keep your baby in a safe and comfortable environment during travel. A pram or stroller must have a break that works, a 5-point harness (2 shoulder straps and two waist straps and the crotch belt) and a wrist tether for the person driving it. Make sure the pram you select is in compliance with these requirements.
Find a stroller that allows your baby to travel in the position recommended for lying flat. This position helps support the baby and helps prevent the risk of a dangerous spinal curve that can cause spinal problems. By keeping the airways open, it decreases the risk for SUID (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or Asphyxiation). Most prams that are used from birth will come with an infant seat that can recline into a lie-flat pram mode for younger babies and then convert into a pushchair seat unit for older children.
The suspension of a pram is important because it can affect the smoothness of the ride. A pram with lots of suspension is likely to cost more but it may be worth paying for this feature if you are planning to use your pram every day for a couple of years or longer.
Always read the instructions and look at the warning labels on your stroller or pram. It is also important to ensure that your stroller is parked in a safe spot away from traffic, bicycles or any other dangers when it is not being used. It is also important to remove any bags or other items that are not removed from the handles, since they can cause your baby to get trapped or even suffocate.
A stroller or pram should not be left unattended with a child in it even if they're asleep. They could get squirming into the stroller and become stuck, or roll away and cause injury. Hanging bags or other objects from the handles isn't an ideal idea because they could fall and strike your child in the head.
Comfort
Having the option of lie flat seating is a necessity for babies, because it helps improve back and lung development. Cocoons or carriers are found on many prams. They create a nest-like environment that is a comfortable place for your baby and can be removed easily from the frame. Some seats, such as the bucket-style seat on the egg2, aren't able to recline completely flat, but they provide a comfortable ride for your child.
Some prams come with a separate seat or bassinet for infants. This allows you to easily switch between the sleeping and sitting positions depending on what your baby needs. It is commonly described as a "pushchairs travel systems system' and is the first option you should test with your baby.
Look for a pram with two shoulder straps (ideally padded) and a five-point safety harness that fits your bub's body safely. Check that there are no gaps, or loose areas, where fingers could become trapped. Also, ensure that the buckles are simple for older children to operate. It is also important to consider whether you want a pram that is oriented towards parents. It is great for keeping an ear on your child and makes them feel more secure being able to see their parents.
Some prams, like the Graco Near2Me have a handy raise and lower function that brings your baby close to your face with the touch of the button, which our parent testers loved! This is an excellent way to stay in touch with your baby, particularly if they are sleeping. If you're in the market for an appropriate travel system, be sure whether the frame is compatible with your car capsule to avoid you having to wake them up when changing between pram, car and back.
Convenience
When buying a babiie pram newborn it is important to consider your baby's transport needs. Some prams have an infant bassinet, carrycot or a seat that can recline to a flat position. This is important to ensure your baby's spinal development and breathing. It is important to check the other accessories included in the pram, such as a footmuff and changing bag. These are essential to keep your baby warm when it is cold.
Some prams and strollers strollers can be converted into travel systems. You can connect a car pod to the frame using adaptors, so you can move your child from the car to the pram without waking them up. These are useful for those who have a hectic lifestyle or don't have a sufficient space for prams, however it's important to keep in mind that your child must be old enough and able to sit up independently before you can switch them from car capsule to pram.
Another feature you may want to look out for is the ability to raise and lower the infant's seat from a low to high setting, which helps maintain eye contact with them and keeps them close to you, something that our parent tester found was very useful for her 10-month old boy! An excellent example is the Graco Near2Me, which can be lowered to allow your little one to 'glide' up to you with the push of the button, and remain in constant eye contact.
Finally, make sure your pram newborn has a sturdy base with wheels that can withstand bumps and potholes and that you can fold it down easily, and check that the safety harness you use is safe and fits comfortably (five-point instead of three-point) and is adjustable as your child grows. It should be possible to store bags for changing and shopping under the pram (but remember that excessive weight could cause it to tip over). If you're unsure of which model to go with, try some different models at your local store.
