Buying a Pram Newborn

Prams and pushchairs are the multi-functional, multi-purpose companions of caregivers and parents. They are the co-pilots of your child's journey.

A pram newborn is a must for infants and newborns. It comes with a an incredibly sturdy, deep carrycot that has soft and secure walls.

A pram comes with a bassinet. However, it can also be converted into a stroller when the baby is ready.

Safety

Newborns are incredibly fragile and need to be protected as much as possible. Buying a stroller or pram with safety features will ensure that your baby is comfortable and secure during travel. The basic requirements for any stroller or pram are a functioning brake, a 5-point safety harness (2 shoulder straps, 2 waist straps, and the Crotch strap) and a wrist tether strap for the person who is pushing the pram. Be sure that the model you are considering meets these standards before you buy.

Find a pram that allows your baby to ride in the recommended lying-flat position. This position supports your baby and prevents a dangerous curvature in their spine which could lead to spinal problems. By keeping the airways open, it reduces the chance of SUID (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or Asphyxiation). Most prams are able to be used from the moment of the moment of birth. They have an adjustable seat that reclines into a lay-flat mode for infants, and can be converted into a pushchair sale unit for older children.

The suspension on a pram is important as it will affect how smooth the ride is. A pram with lots of suspension is likely to be more expensive but it could be worth it to purchase this feature if you intend to use your pram daily for a few years or more.

It is important to make sure to read the instruction manual thoroughly and check the warning labels for your double stroller or pram. When not using it, park your pram away from potential dangers like traffic, bicycles or other people. It is important to remove any bags or items from the handles as they could cause your baby to be trapped or even suffocate.

Even if the baby is asleep, it's not an ideal idea to leave a stroller or pram unattended. They can get wriggling and become stuck or the pram might roll away and they might be injured. Hanging bags or other items from the handles isn't recommended since they could fall and hit your child in the head.

Comfort

Possibility of lying flat seating is an absolute essential for infants because it helps improve back and lung development. Cocoons or carrycots are found on many prams. They create a nest-like space that is a comfortable place for your baby and can be removed easily from the frame. Some seats, like the bucket-style seat on egg2, don't recline completely flat, but provide an enjoyable ride for your child.

Some prams come with an additional bassinet, infant inset or stroller seat, so you can easily switch between sitting and sleeping modes according to your baby's needs. This is sometimes described as a "travel system" and is the initial setup you should test out with your newborn.

Choose a stroller with two shoulder straps (ideally cushioned) and a sturdy five-point safety harness that fits your child's body safely. Be sure there aren't gaps or loose areas in which fingers can get caught and that the buckles are easy to use - especially for older children. You should also consider if you'd like an adult-facing pram. It is great to keep an eye on your child and makes them feel more secure by having their parents around.

Some prams, such as the Graco Near2Me have an awesome raise and lower feature that allows your baby to come up to your face at the push chairs and prams of an button, which our parents testers really loved! This is a great method of keeping eye contact with your baby and keep in touch, particularly when they're sleeping. If you're looking for an infant travel system that is compatible with the car capsule you pick, you will not have to wake your baby to switch between the car and pram sets.

Convenience

When buying a pram newborn it is crucial to think about your baby's needs for transport. Some prams have the option of a carrycot or bassinet which allows your baby to be laid flat (essential for their development of their spine and breathing) while others come with seats that recline into a flat position. It is also important to know the other accessories included in the pram, like the footmuff and the changing bag. These are essential for keeping your baby warm when it's cold.

It's important to note that some strollers and prams can be transformed into travel systems permitting you to connect a car capsule with the frame using adaptors, so that you can transfer your baby between the car and the pushchair without needing to get them up. This is a great option when you live a busy schedule or don't have the sufficient space for a pram capsule, although it is worth bearing in mind that your baby will need to be old enough and able to sit up on their own before you can change between the car capsule and pram.

Another feature you may want to consider is the possibility of raising and lowering your infant's seat from a low to high setting, which keeps eye contact with them and keeps them close to you. This is something our tester for parents found very useful for her 10-month old boy! An excellent example is the Graco Near2Me, which can lower to allow your little one to 'glide into your arms by pressing an button and maintain constant eye contact.

Make sure that your pram newborn has a sturdy base with wheels that are able to handle potholes and bumps. Ensure that you can fold it up easily and make sure the safety harness you use is safe that fits comfortably and securely (five-point instead of three-point) and is able to be adjusted as your child grows. You should be able to store shopping bags and changing bags beneath the pram (but keep in mind that too much weight could cause it to topple over). If you're not sure which model to choose, try some different models at your local store.
