bedside sleeper cot Cot 6 Months Plus

Bedside sleepers allow you to keep your baby close in the same room as you do without the danger of sharing beds, which comes with an increased risk of death from suffocation. They're also a great option for newborns.

Find models with an adjustable height position that gives a perfect fit on all bed frames. Look for fabrics that are easy-to-clean and ventilated.

Safety

A bedside cot can be described as a bassinet that is attached to the side of a bed for safe cosleeping. It can be used to bring your baby towards you to comfort them, feed them or to soothe your baby at the night. It's also a great alternative if you've have had a c section. It's different from a Moses basket or cot because it has high sides to ensure your baby won't be pushed out. Some models have tilting features that help babies with colic or reflux. They are also slightly larger than Moses baskets, making them easier to move from room room.

The NHS and The Lullaby Trust, a safe sleep charity, recommend that infants be placed in a bassinet or cot in same room with their parents. They shouldn't be sleeping in your bed. Sharing beds increases the risk of overheating or suffocation. Bedside cribs allow your child to sleep with you however, in a secure and private space.

Check that the crib meets the most recent safety standards. It should be BS EN1130, 2019. Also, make sure that there are no gaps or parts that could allow your child to get trapped. Find a mattress with a flat, firm surface. A sagging mattress or one that is too soft could increase the risk of SIDS for your baby.

Find bedding that is well-fitted and does not have pillows or blankets that are loose. Pillows are a suffocation risk and duvets could get stuck to baby's face. It's a good idea to use a fitted sheet instead however, make sure it's sized correctly.

Our MFM mum testers have found that the SnuzPod4 is a great option for a crib that is positioned near the bed, selected for 2021's Mother&Baby Awards in the best Cot, Crib, or Moses Basket category. It attaches securely to the bed and comes with an adjustable height that allows for an ideal fit. It has a rocking feature and can be adjusted to an inclined position to prevent reflux. It is also a great option for those with narrow or small beds, as it does not take up the entire space.

Design

The design of a crib for the bed is important as it is where your baby will spend most of their time. Many cribs are available in a range of colors that match your decor. Some come with features like mesh windows to keep your baby's view or drop-down sides that make it easier to access. Some cribs also have incline features to ease reflux.

Most cribs can also be raised and lowered to the same height as your bed, making it simple to get in and out of the bed at the end of the night. There are even some that are made to work as travel cribs, which are ideal when you're traveling or visiting relatives.

Home tester and MFM mother Leya found the SnuzPod 4's sleek, Scandi style complemented her bedroom decor, adding that its compact fold was perfect for sizing up space. She also liked that one side of the crib can be lowered so that she can pick up her sleeping baby without having to leave her bed. This is particularly helpful for those who have had an emergency C-section or recovering from a Caesarean because it allows you to stay close to your baby for a longer period of time.

Jasmine is a mother who also loved using the SnuzPod 4. She noted that it was easy to move the crib from one room to another and back again - something she didn't find with other bedside cribs. She did mention that the handle was a bit stiff and it took quite a bit of effort to raise the crib.

Another crib that's easy to fold and move is the Tutti Bambini CoZee Air, which was shortlisted for the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards as the best bedside cot Cot Crib, Moses Basket. Its slim frame and neutral colour options will fit in with most bedrooms, although some of our testers at home felt the bars were too close together, meaning they could get caught on clothing or baby toys. The distance between bars should not exceed 6.5cm (2 inches) to avoid your baby's head from becoming trapped. This crib is also ideal for babies suffering from reflux as the ComfortAir air-flow system assists in regulating their body temperature.

Comfort

Keeping your baby close all night will provide peace of mind, however, you must be able to reach them quickly during the night for feeding. With a crib that is placed near the bed it is possible to do this without having to get out of bed. They also make it easy to calm babies back to sleep. If, however, you'd like to lay down with your baby but don't want the hassle of waking up for every feed, a moses basket is the better option.

The majority of cribs for bedside are attached to the bedside, so you are able to easily access and touch your baby. They often have a mesh window so you can check on your baby without disrupting them. They may also have a reflux setting to aid in reflux or colic.

This crib has a lot of features, but we're impressed by the ComfortAir mattress that is breathable and regulates the temperature of your baby's body and maximizes airflow. It's smaller than some other cribs for bedside use which can be useful where space is limited. Our mom testers agree that this is an excellent choice for sleepless, long nights.

The cot is secured to the side of the bed with adjustable straps. This eliminates the risk of gaps in which your child may get trapped. It also comes with a firm and flat mattress that meets safety standards and encourages healthy sleeping practices.

You should be aware that your baby is likely to get out of their crib when they're capable of sitting upright, which is usually about six months old. It's important that you place your baby in a cot or a different sleeping arrangement when they've outgrown their crib.

A cot that is light and suitable for travel is another aspect to consider. Some of our mothers enjoy the fact that the crib can be dismantled for easy transport, while others find it tricky to assemble and rebuild. It's also a challenge to keep clean and therefore you'll have to regularly wipe it down using a cloth or cleaning product.

Stores

A bedside cot that is 6 months old plus is an upholstered bassinet cot that can be fixed to the bed's side for a safe and secure co sleeper bedside cot-sleeping. They're ideal for feeding your baby at night and calming babies to sleep and allowing mothers who've had an e-csection to keep their baby close.

When choosing a bedside crib, it's important to make sure that it complies with current safety standards. Verify that the bars are far enough apart to prevent your baby's head becoming stuck, and make sure the sides that drop down are secure and don't open unexpectedly. Do not place stickers or transfer onto the surface of the cot as they could be the risk of choking.

Emily's preferred bedside travel crib cot for her baby is the Next2me Magic. It was shortlisted for the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards in the categories of Best Crib or Cot, and the Best Moses Basket. It's a decent size and has plenty of storage space for everything your baby needs. It's also lightweight and compact enough to fit in its travel bag if you have to transport it from room to room. If you're looking for something a bit more simple, she suggests the Shnuggle Air next to the crib.
