Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?

It's easy to move around with the lightweight double stroller with car seat pushchair particularly if you have children of varying age groups. They are easy to fold, steer and transport up and over steps.

This City Mini GT2 features side-by-side seating with plenty of legroom. It also has adjustable reclining, UPF 50+ canopies and peekaboo windows. It also comes with a frame that expands in width to accommodate an additional car seat or another passenger.

Side-by-Side

The majority of light double pushchairs we tested are side-by-side designs and are best suited for children that can sit up on their own because they tend to be lacking car seat integration. The Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double, are both excellent choices. They offer recline that can be adjusted for both seats, a large canopy, and padded five-point safety harnesses. They're also easy to maneuver despite their larger footprints and are perfect for parents who worry about fitting through doors.

The Cybex Duet is a little different due to its clever frame that expands widthways to add an additional seat, which makes it lighter than most other side-by-side pushchairs available. This means it can fit through standard doorways and is easy to maneuver on public transport. It also doubles as a jogger, which is ideal for those who plan to use it in conjunction with an infant car seat or a baby carrier.

The UPPAbaby Vista v2 double is another excellent lightweight side-by-side double. It provides additional flexibility due to a modular frame. It's a clever design that allows you to turn it into a single stroller or a double by adding two car seats or carrycots (it can even accommodate twins). It's a great option for families that are growing and the UPPAbaby is among the lightest and stylish umbrella strollers available.

If you're looking for a more compact twin stroller and lightweight double, you can try the egg2 which folds down to the size of a small suitcase. It can be used as a single or double by adding two baby car seats or carrycots. Our test subjects were awed by how easy it was to maneuver even with a full load of kids.

Even though they are lightweight double stroller, double pushchairs that are side-by-side do not guarantee safety. If your children are at the same age and stage, they could still argue over who sits in which spot. If they are at different heights, then a tandem style may be the best option for them, since it lets them face each other.

Tandem

While side-byside models are better for children with similar age group, tandem light double strollers come with their own appeal. They can be fitted with a larger car seat, and some have seats that can be reversible or a carrycot that is located in the middle. They are more spacious, and easier to get in and out of. However the baskets they use tend to be smaller than those on buggies that are single. Many also feature more generously big canopies with windows that peek out and a parent cup holder and padded leg cushions for children.

The iCandy Peach tandem is another great example of a lightweight tandem that offers great value. The fabrics are less luxurious than some of our top-rated doubles. However, it still looks great and is easy to use. Its one-handed folding is impressive. Even though it requires some time to master, Kirstie from our Lab called it "genius". It can't be folded without the carrycot attached, however, the mechanism for attaching and removing it is simple and fast.

Tandem lightweight double strollers will usually make tighter turning than side-byside models. However, they could be harder to drive on uneven surfaces or curbs. They are also slower to accelerate and heavier to move. This can put stress on your back.

Another alternative is a convertible double buggy which starts off as a single and then you can add adapters to make it into a double. They can include a second seat, carrycot or both in the front. The children can share a seat. Some can also consider adding a buggyboard, which helps an older child keep up with siblings who are younger.

The Uppababy Vista V2 can be converted into a twin-sized pram by purchasing additional cocoons for PS59 each. The cocoons create an area that is flat for newborns. They can be placed on top of each other or positioned to face each other and you can use them in conjunction with the infant car seat that is included with the pushchair (as long as you choose the right one). As they're made with quality materials, these buggies that are dual-use can be used for years without showing much wear, indicating they have high resale value.

Single-to-Double

For families who love the outdoors and are looking to upgrade their single stroller, this light double buggy turns into a jogger thanks to an innovative kit that includes air-filled tyres, as well as all-wheel suspension. It's also a great option for twins, or children of different ages and, as triple tandem, it can handle rough terrain. It's also a good option for parents who are looking for a stylish design that's as sleek as a single and is available in a range of fabrics.

This iCandy model is very easy to fold with the use of a single hand. It's heavier than other single-to-double pushchairs, but home tester Karolina says it's maneuverable even with two toddlers inside and the carrycot.

The seat can be used parent-facing, and you can also purchase accessories for this stroller such as the Roma Gemini carrycots (PS100 each), which are ideal for infants. Our test panel found the seats were comfortable for toddlers, with excellent headrests and lumbar support. There are a variety of options for reclining the seats, with the front seat can be adjusted to different positions, and the back seat having an option to recline.

The biggest drawback of this type of buggy is that it tends to be larger overall than doubles that are side-by-side which makes it more difficult to get through doorways and is difficult to manoeuvre up and down kerbs. The wheels and suspension of these types of strollers are generally good at coping with paved surfaces. They're also lighter than most side-by-sides and, therefore, you can have plenty of storage. It's important to remember that these types of strollers aren't as good at getting through narrow aisles in supermarkets and can struggle to handle a lot of shopping. It's a bit easier to turn them around on the smallest curves of paths however, it can be difficult to turn them around on a straight path. Some are more easy to turn than other models, like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.

Convertible

Convertible double pushchairs are ideal because they can be adapted to the changing requirements of families. They often start out as single buggies, and have adapters that allow you to add an additional seat, a carrycot, or (in certain instances) an automobile seat to the frame. Some can be converted to a single when your older child starts to walk or prefers to ride buggyboards.

One of the most lightweight double strollers on our list, this stylish tri-fold model can carry children up to 40 lbs each. It comes with a convenient basket that can be placed between the seats for storage. The spacious canopy with a peekaboo window, multi-position reclining seats and a front and back suspensions to ensure smoother rides on rough terrain were praised by testers at home. It also has an easy-to-use cup holder for parents and an enormous easy-to-access basket. The backs have small pockets, that are just sufficient to hold phones and a set of keys.

This light, high-end side-byside is available in more than 20 different configurations. It also comes with a second chair and carrycot. Its impressive set of features includes a high-profile handlebar for easier steering and a rear and front suspension to smooth rough terrain; a self-standing, compact fold with handy straps for easy schlepping; and seven-inch swivel lock front wheels and back wheels that measure 10 inches with suspension to provide a more comfortable ride. The only downside is that you'll have to purchase a separate baby carriage or car seat.

This versatile tandem is a top pick by our home testers due to its maneuverability and large shopping basket that is accessible with both seats facing towards the parent. Its light weight (about the same as some single pushchairs) makes it a breeze to move around. Many users praise the clever way it attaches the second seat or riding board in the back. Parents also loved the fact that it can accommodate infant carriers and car seat from multiple brands. This includes a few that aren't normally compatible with other double buggies.
