Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

The stats of an item can be improved through upgrading it, also known as "upping". Each upgrade increment results in a linear increase in any stat.

Players can recycle up to six items at once to gain an ability to gauge the level of each of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling an item varies with its rarity and level.

Upgrade components

An item upgrade in Guild Wars 2 is a procedure that can improve the effectiveness of your armor and weapons. This can be achieved through various methods, including using upgrade components and upgrading an item's mark level or rarity. Additionally, many items can be reforged, which can boost their stats even more.

Upgradeable items are available all over the game, both within the world and as rewards for missions. Players can also make them. The primary method to upgrade gear is through the use of upgrade components which are the items that can be inserted into equipment. The majority of equipment comes with upgrade slots, and most require a certain level of upgrade. Some upgrade components give specific bonuses while others provide general bonuses.

There are many types of upgrade components in the game, including universal upgrades, inscriptions, and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gemstones and enchantments can be used in any type of equipment and offer fewer bonuses than those that are equipment type specific. Glyphs can only be found in gathering tools. They provide a variety bonuses, ranging from increasing the speed at which an item gathers to providing extra crafting material.

To upgrade an item, select it in your inventory and open the Upgrade window. The preview will appear on the right side of the screen. It will display the expected stats after the upgrade. If you don't have enough of either, the Upgrade button will say Blocked.

The upper-right side of the screen shows the amount of upgrade components required for the specific item. The price of an upgrade increases with the level and rarity of the item upgrades increases. However, you can reduce this cost by purchasing upgrades from a merchant, or trading them with other players.

The majority of weapons can be upgraded by adding a prefix, like a rune or an insignia. Other weapons can be upgraded by adding the suffix. These upgrades change the name of the item, adding an adjective, for example 'Radiant' or 'Minor Vigor.' The exceptions are the non-inscribable wands, the shields and foci from Prophecies and Factions campaigns, which cannot be upgraded with any mods.

Glyphs

Glyphs are a way to convey visual information. They animate in order to grab the viewer's eye and spark curiosity. The animation of glyphs mimics the body language, making them more effective in transmitting a linguistic barrier-crossing message. Glyphs also improve the recall of messages by creating an emotional connection in the brain.

Each glyph can increase a stat's value by a certain range. This is displayed on the item, when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This isn't the actual amount at which the glyph will increase a stat, but the maximum amount it is able to do so. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and the quality of the item upgrading you're in awe of it.

Most upgrade components inserted into items can't be replaced or salvaged without removing the gear in question, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If, however, you have a non-useful rune or glyph that has not yet been incorporated into your gear, you can move it to another piece of gear by using the upgrade Glyphs context menu on the Glyphs panel. This will create an entirely new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.

If you want to remove a glyph from a piece of then you'll need to salvage it with a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. This will cause the item to be destroyed within which it is placed but you will be able to salvage the upgraded item by using the glyph and its shards therefore it should not be considered as a loss.

A glyph added to an item may cause it to become unstable and the shards that are left of that glyph will disappear from your inventory once you take it down. You can also add the glyph to your equipment to give it an extra benefit. For instance the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and distribute it slowly rather than all at once. This is useful for players who suffer many hits from enemies, but do not want to be overwhelmed.

Reroll tokens

Reroll tokens permit players to change the affixes of their weapons and equipment and can be found in various ways, including in mistery boxes or as an uncommon drop from skulled creatures, or from killing bosses. Each reroll provides the player with an affix randomly chosen and generally better than the one they had before. Reroll tokens are also a good method to reroll the stats of a weapon and can be upgraded to provide better damage or other perks.

Rerolled items do not appear on the menu for item upgrades, but they are still able to be upgraded. These rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button, which changes the appearance of the window and allows up to six items to be selected to recycle. The level gauge is boosted by recycling an item. The amount is determined by the item's rarity as well as its own level, so higher-level items are more valuable to recycle than lower level ones.

In addition to tokens for rerolls players can also make use of Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to roll the weapon traits of an upgraded unit. Rerolls will determine the percentage chance of a particular weapon trait. If it is higher, the weapon is upgraded. If it rolls lower, it remains unchanged. Weapons can be rerolled up to three times.

A reroll is a good option to upgrade an item, but users should be aware that it can lower the overall ilvl of the weapon due to the number of rerolls needed to increase it to the final level. This lowering effect is most effective for ring items and Diadems that do not have any competing ilvl-raising options.

Some players have complained that the reroll system is too expensive. It would be fairer to allow people to pay for it using money or food items that would allow players to make adjustments to their builds without having to spend too much time. However the paid rerolls aren't something the developers are planning to implement at this time in the game's development. They're planning to include the ability for players to change their race in the near future.

Leveling

There are a number of ways to level up an upgrade to an item. The first is to increase the upgrade amount, which increases the value of an upgrade for a given stat. The alternative is to increase the effect of an upgrade, which increases the damage or healing of a stat. The base item can be upgraded to an advanced upgrade type. The new item will retain its iLevel but have the upgraded effects of the upgraded item.

When you upgrade items it is essential to keep in mind that upgrades aren't always planned. In the majority of cases the chance of a better roll will come from the glyphs, but there are also opportunities for more or unique rolls. The item type will also determine the iLevel. If you upgrade a unique or rare item to a special item type, it has a chance of gaining a higher level.

Upgrades can be expensive, especially if you are upgrading equipment from the standard track to legendary. The cost will depend on the item's iLevel base and the amount of upgrade levels it has. Some upgrade tracks also require crests to reach the next level.

If you're lucky the upgraded item will be at the highest level of its upgrade track, and will unlock an additional bonus effect. This will give the item a significant upgrade value. The bonus effect will change with each upgrade level. In general the upgrade items effect is increased by a value of +3.

Based on the item's base level and upgrade path, the iLevel of the upgraded item will change too. For instance an item that has been upgraded from a unique or rare to an extraordinary item is likely to get the Enhanced Defense of the new base item type.
