10 Things That Your Family Taught You About Double Pushchair
Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?
It's easy to move around with a light double pushchair, particularly if you have children with different ages. They are easy to fold, steer and transport up and down the steps.
This City Mini GT2 offers side-by-side seats with plenty of legroom with adjustable reclining, as well as huge UPF 50+ canopies with peekaboo windows. It also has an expanding frame the width to accommodate the second car seat or another passenger.
Side-by-Side
The majority of the light double car seat stroller pushchairs we tested were side-by-side models. These are best for children who can sit and stand double stroller without assistance, since they tend to lack compatibility with car seats. The Thule Urban Glide 2 Double, and Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand double stroller with bassinet, are both excellent choices. They offer recline that can be adjusted for both seats, a big canopy, and padded five-point safety harnesses. They're also easy to move despite their bigger footprint and are great for parents worried about fitting through doorways.
The Cybex Duet is a little different due to its unique frame that expands widthways to add an additional seat, making it smaller than the majority of other pushchairs that are side-by-side on the market. This means it fits through standard doorways and is easy to maneuver on public transport. It also doubles as a jogger which is a great feature if you want to use it with a baby carrier or infant car seat. It's available in a variety of exciting colors.
The UPPAbaby Vista v2 double is another great side-by-side, lightweight double. It offers additional flexibility due to the modular frame. It's a clever design that allows you to transform it into a single buggy or a double with the addition of two car seats or carrycots (it can even accommodate twins). It is a practical option for families growing. The UPPAbaby umbrella stroller is one of the Lightest double Stroller, most fashionable and most stylish available.
If you're looking for a more compact lightweight double, try the egg2 which folds down to the size of a compact suitcase. It can be used as a single double with the addition of 2 carrycots or infant car seats, and our home testers loved the sleek and easy it was to use even when loaded with children.
Side-by-side lightweight double pushchairs aren't foolproof, though -when your children are at the same age or at the same stage, they might still argue over who rides in which seat. If they're at different heights, the tandem model could be ideal for them as it allows them to face each other.
Tandem
While side-by-side models are more suitable for siblings with similar ages tandem pushchairs are light and lightweight, and have their own charms. They can accommodate a larger car seat, and some even have convertible seats or an additional carrycot in the middle. They are bigger and easy to get in and out of. However their baskets tend to be smaller than those found on buggies that are single. Many also feature more generously large canopies that have peekaboo windows, as well as one parent cup holder and padding for the legs of little ones.
The iCandy Peach is another example of a lightweight and affordable tandem. The fabrics are less luxurious than those of some of our top-rated doubles. However, it still looks fantastic and is simple to use. One of the most impressive things about it is the one-handed fold. Although it requires practice, Kirstie in our Lab declared it to be "genius". The carrycot can't be folded while it's attached. However, the mechanism to attach and remove the carrycot is easy and quick.
Tandem double pushchairs are light and lightweight. They generally have tighter turns than side-by-side models, however, they can be more difficult to drive over bumps and uneven surfaces. They are also slightly slower to accelerate and can be heavier to move, which could cause strain on your back.
A convertible double buggy is another option. It is initially a single, but you can add adapters to make it double stroller with car seat. This can include the option of a second seat or carrycot in front or the kids can be seated side-by-side. Some also have the option of incorporating buggy boards that can help an older child keep up with younger siblings.
The Uppababy Vista V2 is a good example of a convertible as it can also convert into a twin pram by the purchase of additional cocoons (PS59 each) that create a lie-flat space for infants. They can be positioned side by side or attached to each other's faces and you can use them in conjunction with the infant car seat that is included with the pushchair (as as long as you choose an appropriate one). Because they're made from high-quality materials, these types of dual-use buggies can often be used for many years without showing much wear, which means they have a high price resales.
Single-to-Double
This lightweight double buggy is designed for families who love to go on outdoor adventures and would like to upgrade from an individual-stroller. It can be converted into a jogger by acquiring the kit that comes with air-filled tires and all-wheel-suspension. It's also a good option for twins, or children from different age groups, and as a triple tandem, it is able to handle rough terrain. It's also a good option for parents who want an elegant design that's as sleek as a single and comes in a variety of fabric colours.
This iCandy model is easy to fold with a one-handed system. Although it's heavier than other single-to-double pushchairs in this review, home tester Karolina stated that it feels extremely maneuverable, even when she had two toddlers and a carrycot inside.
The seat can be used parent-facing, and you can also purchase accessories for this stroller like the Roma Gemini carrycots (PS100 each), which are ideal for newborns. Our test panel found that the seats to be comfortable for toddlers, with excellent headrests and lumbar support. There are a variety of options for reclining and recline, with the front seat being adjustable to different positions and the rear seat having the option of recline.
The main drawback to this type of buggy is that it's generally wider overall than side-by-side doubles which makes it more difficult to navigate through doorways and can be difficult to maneuver around kerbs. The suspension and wheels of these types of strollers are generally able to cope with pavements. They're also lighter than many side-bysides, so you can still have plenty of storage. These strollers can be difficult to maneuver around supermarkets with narrow aisles, and they may struggle to carry a large amount. It's a little easier to turn around even on the smallest of curving paths, but it can be difficult to turn them around on a straight path. Some are more easy to turn than others models, like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or the Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.
Convertible
Convertible double pushchairs are fantastic because they can be adapted to the changing needs of the family. They are typically single buggies, and have adapters that allow you to add a second seat, a carrycot, or (in some cases) a car seat to the frame. Some are able to be converted to a single when your child reaches the age of walk or wants to ride a buggyboard.
One of the lightest double strollers on our list, this sleek tri-fold model is able to hold children as heavy as 40 pounds each and features a handy basket in between the seats for storage. The spacious canopy with a peekaboo window, multi-position reclining chairs and a front and back suspensions for smoother riding on rough terrain were appreciated by testers at home. It also comes with a handy cup holder for the parent and a large, easy-to-access basket. However, they noticed that the seats' backs have small pockets that are not big enough to hold more than a cell phone and keys.
This premium, lightweight side-by-side can be used in more than 20 configurations and includes two seats and a carrycot. It features a high-profile steering handlebar, front and rear suspensions to smooth out rough terrain and an ultra-compact fold that can stand on its own with straps that make it easy to transport, and seven-inch front wheels with swivel locks as well as 10 inches back wheels with suspensions for more comfortable riding. The only downside is that you'll have to purchase a separate baby carrier or car seat.
This multi-functional tandem is a top choice among our home testers for its easy-to-maneuver size and impressively large shopping basket that is accessible with both seats in the parent-facing position. Its surprisingly lightweight weight (about the same as a few single pushchairs) makes it easy to move around. Reversible seats mean they can be switched to face either direction and the clever way it can attach a second seat or riding board to the rear is appreciated by many. Parents also admired that it accommodates infant carriers and car seats from a variety of brands. This includes some that are not normally compatible with other double buggies.
