How to replace the ignition Key in the Saab XC90

It's probably time to replace your SAAB key fob if you are having difficulty turning the lock barrel. Fortunately, the process is relatively simple and doesn't require you to visit a dealer. Instead, you can do it yourself at home, using just the help of a few tools.

You'll first need to prepare the keys for your new car. Before you begin, disable the anti-theft by placing blocks underneath your rear wheels and engaging your handbrake. Insert the key in the ignition and then turn the key to the "on" position. This will activate the accessories, but it will not start the engine. Repeat this procedure five times, then keep the key in the on position.

Next, you'll need to find a new case for your key fob. They are readily available at many auto parts stores and are typically inexpensive. Depending on the model, you could even get them without any electronic components.

To open the case you need to gently push the flathead screwdriver into the slot in the middle. The case should split easily, and once you've got it open, you'll get access to the internal electronics. To take the electronics out, use a small flathead screwdriver and try prying them out with a gentle force.
