1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've tested. They have top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. As with other premium iRobot models (including the top choice), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have a feature called Carpet Boost that boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.
However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also quiet and works when you're at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you need to, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, however it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a great job cleaning a range of rooms and floors with various flooring types, such as some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy models from the rivals. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's also the sole robot vacuum cleaners uk vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's loud which could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to sleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing some more volume and some additional cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and cleans and dries the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also has a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the home based on how dirty the areas are.
For bigger homes it's worth looking for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house using the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is useful if you own a number of furniture. Also the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum with mop vacuum continue where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might think from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that vacuum and mop that we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
