This is your time to own a robotic vacuum. CNET's top models are on sale this Black Friday and Cyber Monday, with savings of up to 57%..
The Roborock Q7 Max is a powerful robot that is equipped with smart mapping and app-based no go zones. Its running time of 180 minutes is impressive. It also self-empties and automatically refills its water tank.
1. Roomba j7+ from iRobot
The Roomba J7+, IRobot's most intelligent robot to date, is the Roomba j7+. The most significant innovation, however, is its camera-based obstacle-detection system. It makes use of AI to detect objects like charging cords and shoes. It's the first robot vacuum cleaner price to send you pictures of the objects that it encounters, so you can tell the robot to stay clear of it.
The Combo J7+ is the best robot to mop we've ever tested, removing spills and dirt effortlessly and leaving no trace that it was there. It's easy to control through the iRobot Home app, which lets you schedule cleaning and create Keep Out Zones so that it doesn't clean areas you do not want it to. It's compatible with Alexa or Google Assistant so you can start it and stop it by voice.
The design is also better than the other models. It features a sleek, top piece that appears like an toy, not an obnoxious and loud robot. Clean Base's Automatic Dirt removal System also self-empties, which will cut down your cleaning time.
In our tests, we observed that the j7+ swiftly eliminated dirt, dust and hair from pets. Its counter-rotating rubber brush rolls kept the debris in one spot rather than sending it scattering all over the floor. It even managed to catch small gravel and sand that other robots aren't able to do. It did all this without getting tangled up in our pet's hair shedding.
The j7+, while not as sophisticated as the Roomba S9 for $1,217+ Self-Emptying Vacuum robot hoover from iRobot, and isn't able to clean the stairs, it's an excellent choice for those who need both a vacuum and a mop. It's not too expensive, and the IRobot app makes it user-friendly.
While the iRobot Home app is very easy to use however we've found it be less reliable than other applications that use robotic cleaners. It can take some time to download updates, and at times it's difficult to tell whether the update is working until you see it in action.
2. Roborock Q5+
If you're looking for a vacuum that does more than just clean floors, the best choice is probably hybrid. This category of bots typically comes with a built-in tank for water, meaning they can both vacuum and mop your home at the same time. They also come with many additional features, including smart mapping, small object avoidance, and the possibility of washing and re-drying mopping pads. They're costly at full retail but often are reduced on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
Roborock produces some of our favorite robotic vacuums and the Q5+ does not disappoint. It's the cheapest model of their auto-empty line. While it may not have some of the more premium features (like no-go areas and multi-story memories) however, it's an excellent choice if you are willing to compromise to save a few dollars.
The Q5+ is notably soft around obstacles like table legs and walls which makes it a good choice for homes with lots of furniture. It's also extremely thorough in getting rid of dust bunnies which is a place where many cheaper robot vacuums can really fail. The navigation technology in the Q5+ is fantastic too, with very little misses in corners and along walls.
Like other Roborock devices like the Q5+, the Q5+ can be controlled with a handful of buttons on the device itself or through the Roborock app. Through the app, you can start and stop cleanings or schedules, establish virtual barriers and no-go zones, and adjust your home map, or change the labeling of rooms.
If you choose the Q5+ model, it comes with a brand new auto-emptying dock that's designed to make the robot easier to maintain. It requires a screwdriver install, but once it's installed, the process of emptying the bin is relatively easy. It also features an impressive LCD display, which is nice to have when you're setting up schedules or adjusting settings. This feature isn't necessary for everyone, but it can help you easily keep track of the robot's maintenance schedules.
3. Narwal Freo X Ultra
The Freo X Ultra is a well-rounded robot vacuum and mop that's impressively clever in its vacuuming and mopping capabilities. Its design is among the best in the industry however, it's costly.
It's a tiny base station that looks great and is easily hidden when not in use. The primary selling point of the station is that it can automate many tasks, functions, and chores that other robots leave to you. It stores clean and dirty water, it electrolyzes and heats the water (which most other robovacs require you to do) also emptying the dustbin after vacuuming, and helps keep your robot charged and clean.
And its vacuuming is impressive as well. It's the few robot vacuums robot I've tested that do very well at picking up debris on bare floors, and it's not as loud as the more expensive Roomba 980 or iRobot 900 series.
The Freo X Ultra is not without faults, particularly when it comes to navigation. Its laser sensors and LiDAR sensors aren’t as reliable as other robot vacuums. This means that it can get stuck or confused in certain areas or rooms in the house. It can't climb stairs as well as some competitors, for instance and it doesn't have an dock that allows the user to set up a dedicated cleaning zone for plush carpets.
The Freo X Ultra robot vacuum and mop is an excellent choice for those who need a robot vacuum that does everything.
If you're looking for a way to save money or aren't concerned about the limitations of the robot, there are other options available. A lot of eufy models are significantly less. The eufy Qrevo curv, for instance is less expensive, but offers more features, such as stair climbing and a full-function Dock, with an improved overall experience when vacuuming on bare floors, low-pile carpets, and even high-pile carpets.
4. eufy RoboVac G30
Eufy, an Anker company is a long-standing leader of creating robot vacuums that strike a good balance between features, performance and price. The G30 Hybrid is no different, offering a capable cleaning of hard floors and mopping, carpets and other surfaces at a reasonable price. It's easy to setup, just snap one of the side brushes on, switch it on and plug in the charging dock. The app walks you through several steps to connect it to your Wi-Fi. After that, the G30 is ready to go. The dock will need to be located near an outlet and have plenty of space to move.
The G30 is a tiny device that measures 2.85 inches in height, so it can be placed under most couches and low-clearance pieces furniture. Its design is more subtle compared to some rival models. It features a sleek black finish and three buttons that are physical for Auto Cleaning start/pause (which scrubs an area in a spiral pattern over two minutes) Recharge and Spot Cleaner. You can also connect the G30 to Amazon Alexa or Google Home to conduct cleaning without a schedule using voice commands.
The way in which the G30 cleans is what differentiates it from its competitors. It makes use of a built-in map to create an image of non-movable objects that are in its path, remembering what it's already cleaned and what it isn't able to access. It will return to the base to recharge and continues cleaning the area it left.
The elegant G30 isn't without faults however. The iRobot Roomba is better built and has lower cost of operation. It charges faster, has the same battery life and is more effective on bare floors or low-pile carpet. It also has a bigger dust bin that doesn't need to be emptied as frequently and comes with the boundaries that ensure it isn't in certain areas. The G30 is less expensive and easier to maintain. Its smaller container means it doesn't need to be emptied as often, and it has less difficulty handling bulky products like cereal.
