Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?

It's easy to move around in a lightweight double pushchair, especially if you have kids with different ages. They are easy to fold, steer and carry up and over stairs.

This City Mini GT2 features side-by-side seating with plenty of legroom. It also features adjustable reclining, large UPF 50+ canopies and peekaboo windows. It also has a clever frame that can be expanded to accommodate a second seat and compatible car seat(s).

Side-by-Side

The majority of lightweight cheap double stroller pushchairs we've test are side-byside models and are best suited for children that can sit up unassisted because they tend to lack car seat integration. That said there are some exceptions. Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double are both top choices that have adjustable recline in both seats, a large canopy, and padded five-point harnesses. They're also easy to move despite their larger footprint and are great for parents who worry about fitting through doorways.

The Cybex Duet is a little different due to its unique frame that expands widthways to add another seat, which makes it lighter than other pushchairs with side-by-side seating available. It can be pushed through standard doors and is easy to move around on public transport. It also doubles as a jogger which is great when you're planning to use it with an infant carrier or car seat, and comes in a variety of exciting colors.

Another fantastic side-by-side light double is the UPPAbaby Vista v2 Double, which allows for even more customization through a modular frame. The clever design allows you to convert it into a single to double stroller or double buggy by adding two carrycots or car seats for children. It can even accommodate twins. It's a great option for families that are growing, and the UPPAbaby also makes one of the lightest and most stylish umbrella strollers on the market.

Try the egg2 that folds down to the size and weight of a compact suitcase. It can be used as a single or double by adding 2 carrycots or infant car seats and our home testers loved how simple and sleek it was to use, even when fully loaded with children.

Side-by-side lightweight double pushchairs aren't 100% foolproof, however- if your children are of the same age or at the same stage, they might still argue over who rides in which seat. If they're taller than each other, a tandem style might be better for them, as it will allow them to face each other.

Tandem

While side-by-side models may be more suitable for siblings with similar ages, tandem lightweight double pushchairs are a different kind of pushchair with their own appeal. They can be fitted with a larger car seat, and some have seats that can be reversible or a carrycot in the middle. They are generally more spacious and easy to access and exit from, although their baskets are usually smaller than those of single buggies. Many also feature more generously large canopies that have peekaboo windows, as well as one parent cup holder and padded leg cushions for young children.

The iCandy Peach is another example of a good-value lightweight tandem. The fabrics are a little less expensive than some of our top-rated doubles. But, it looks fantastic and is simple to use. One of the most striking things about it is its one-handed fold - although it will require some practice, Kirstie in our Lab said it's "genius". The carrycot can't be folded when it is attached. However, the process to attach and remove the carrycot is easy and quick.

Tandem lightweight double pushchairs will generally have tighter turns than side-by-side models, however, they can be more challenging to drive over uneven surfaces and curbs. They are also slow to pick up speed and can be heavier to move, which could put strain on your back.

A convertible double buggy is an additional alternative. It starts out as one however, you can add adapters to convert it into a double. It can have an additional seat or carrycot in the front or children can be seated side-byside. Some can also consider including a buggyboard that helps an older child keep pace with a younger brother or sister.

The Uppababy Vista V2 can be converted into a twin-sized pram by purchasing additional cocoons for PS59 each. These cocoons create an area that is flat for newborns. They can be placed in a row or joined to one another and you can also use them with the baby car seat that is included with the pushchair (as as long as you select a compatible one). These buggies with dual-use capabilities are made of high-quality materials that can be used for a long time without showing any wear. This means they have an excellent resale value.

Single-to-Double

Ideal for families who love to be outdoors and are looking to upgrade from a single stroller, this lightweight double buggy turns into a jogger with the help of a nifty kit that includes air-filled tyres and all-wheel suspension. It's also a great choice for twins, or children from different age groups, and as a triple tandem, it can take on rough terrain. It's also a good option for parents who are looking for an elegant design that's just as elegant as a single and comes in a variety of fabric colours.

We were impressed by the way this iCandy model folds into itself using a single-hand mechanism that's really simple to master. It's also heavier than some of the other single-to-double pushchairs featured in this review, home tester Karolina claimed that it is very maneuverable, even when she had two toddlers and a carrycot inside.

You can purchase additional items such as the Roma Gemini Carrycots (PS100) which are great for babies. The seats are comfortable for toddlers with high-quality headrests and lumbar supports. And there are many options for recline and recline, with the front seat being able to be adjusted to different positions, and the rear seat offering the option to recline.

The biggest drawback with this kind of buggy is that it's generally larger overall than doubles that are side-by-side which makes it more difficult to maneuver through doorways, and is difficult to maneuver up and down kerbs. The suspension and wheels of these strollers tend to be able to deal with pavements. They're also lighter than many side-by-sides which means you can get a lot of storage. These strollers aren't easy to maneuver around supermarkets with narrow aisles, and they may struggle to carry a lot. Although it's easier to turn the stroller around on a small curved path, this can still be a challenge. Some are also easier to turn than others, such as the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double, for example.

Convertible

The great thing about convertible double pushchairs is the ability to adapt to a family's changing requirements. They typically start as single buggies, and have adapters that allow you to add a second seat, a carrycot, or (in some instances) a car seat to the frame. Some can even convert back to a single as your older child begins to walk more or prefers to ride on a buggy board.

This stylish tri-fold double stroller can be described as one of the lightest on our list. It can support up to 40lbs per child, and includes a storage basket between the seats. Home users loved its spacious canopy with peekaboo windows with multi-position reclining seats as well as front and rear suspension for smoother rides on rough terrain. It also has a handy cup holder for parents and a large, easy-to-access basket. The backs have small double stroller pockets, which are only large enough to hold phones and keys.

This light, high-end side-byside is available in more than 20 models. It also includes a second chair and carrycot. It has a distinctive steering handlebar, rear and front suspensions to smooth rough terrain, a compact fold that can stand on its own with straps for easy transport and seven-inch front wheels with swivel locks and 10 inches back wheels with suspensions to ensure more comfortable riding. The only downside is that you'll have to purchase a separate baby carrier or car seat.

This versatile tandem is a popular choice among our home testers for its easy-to-maneuver size and impressively large shopping basket, which is accessible with both seats in the parent-facing position. Its lightweight weight (about the same as single pushchairs) makes it easy to move around. Many users praise the clever way it connects the second seat or riding board to the back. Parents also appreciated that it accommodates car seats and infant carriers from multiple brands. This includes a few that aren't typically compatible with other double buggies.
