How to Replace an Audi Key Fob Not Working G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located at the edge of transmission over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 via the grey wire. The ECU uses this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It's a bit tricky to test as there are different pins on the connector, and they all have different functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully functional, it should read around 1000 ohms. Examine for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if there are problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, audi a3 replacement key as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a massive drop in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs. Three were drenched in gazoline, the 4th one was dry. When i crank the engine with no sparks i put tissue on top of each injector hole, the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stay shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ i get 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 connected. However, replacement Key for Audi a3 the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is zero.

I don't know what to do. I believe that I've all other possibilities out. I'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is identical to the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or in a local parts store. It is easy to test them - simply put your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines must know the position and speed the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you have a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause an engine shut down.

A damaged G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox and a gearbox which shifts more quickly than normal, or a misfire in the gear. If you are experiencing any of these problems, it is likely your sensor is going bad and should be replaced. They are cheap and easy-to-find especially in the case of a Bosch sensor like ours. Alternatively, GM's version of this part would be a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a variety of issues in your vehicle. It's an essential component of your replacement audi a3 key's transmission, because it communicates to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It transmits signals via a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to control fuel and boost, and also to timigrate. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should see around 1000 ohms of resistance between these two points. This is a typical part that is found across the audi tt key replacement 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU.
