1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.
The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation.
If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain. However the code will not be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
It is a little tricky to test because there are different pins on the connector, and they all have different functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should be reading approximately 1000 ohms. Look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this component.
2. Injectors
Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, I experienced a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors are not firing any more. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, three were drenched in gazoline, the fourth was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole, and when i start the engine without sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I got zero Ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is elsewhere.
I also tried to reset PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue continues to occur at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. Also, i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit is showing 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.
I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've ruled everything else out. But i'm worried that I might have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please share them! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. It is simple to test them to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). 4. ECU
