World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items are a method to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specific amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats improve in value. This is the sum of all of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
The level of an item is a commonly used measure of power, and can be seen on all tooltips of items. It is also used to determine a gating condition when waiting for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is capped at an lower level). Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell gear, players can compare the item level. It's a measure of the damage and its quality. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor can be done by using the level of the item.
The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including the ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are many theories about how the level of an item is determined. One theory states that the level of an item is determined by an equation that determines the value of an item's stats actually are. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different worth and gems in sockets increase the item's overall value. This could result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is usually very close to Blizzard's real level of the item.
This isn't the only factor that influences the value of an item. The location of where the item dropped can also alter its stats. For example it can increase the item's haste or crit score. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more ilvl than those from lower-level instances.
Item Stats
The stats of an item can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats on a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods that are in turn boosted by the player's level.
Upgrades to the item upgrade add by increasing certain stats of the item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. A grey or white item, for example, will only be upgraded one time however, items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with higher costs.
Another method to alter the stats on an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. The affixes are used to give items extra damage, special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs), or to make them unique by naming them.
All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade menu and pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold as well as items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same way as the other options for rerolling.
In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which of the available stats to be kept on an item upgrading when it is upgraded. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However each item will have at least one stat within the range, unless they are a unique item or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be altered by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to increase. As with the base equipment, it will have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats simultaneously.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player increases the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are created by loot and the intensity of these properties. It does not, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players the possibility to obtain better gear in earlier waves and is thus more beneficial in the early game as opposed to later ones, as most players prioritize higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increases with each level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, armor, and shields can be made or spawn using the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be improved with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on their material type) to add another 40 luck, or to increase the luck of the item to 140.
Certain items, such as the Hollow-infused weapon, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any skill that causes damage by 5%. These items are available at the store, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to boost their chance of success or stop them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.
The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..
The Luck of an item can also influence the effectiveness of an upgrade item (istartw.lineageinc.com`s latest blog post). Every item has a base success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional five percent.
It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects could be obstructed by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
