The Best Robot Hoover

The best automatic vacuum robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and it will leave your floors clean. Its low cost and top-of-the-line functions (such as dirt detectors) are positives.

Be sure to inspect your robot's brushes for tangled hair and large particles and clean them as required. Some models also self-empty their onboard dustbin into a larger bin at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've examined. They have top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobot models (including the top pick) they employ smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also feature a feature called carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it sees the presence of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned up quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best automatic vacuum cleaner robotic hoover for carpets, however it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to offer more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is ideal for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could sweep the entire house with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a decent cleaning job on various rooms and floors with various flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxes, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most appealing looking in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some additional cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features to help you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the amount of dirt they are.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your house via the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. Finally, a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would imagine from its price. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or set up an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app also gives access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It has an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuum that vacuums and mops vacuums we have tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
