WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item upgrade by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item upgrade level, but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items which can be used to upgrade weapons, tools, armor, and other accessories. They are purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade items can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will show a preview of an item level Upgrade's next upgrade level, when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For example weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currency types.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require several methods, which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with numerous new features added. After a player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item upgrade level will cost less. This applies even if those items are from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a variety of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item upgrades level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

First, you must be aware that Crests are only available to equipment that is of a certain rank. Each rank comes with an upgrade path that is different. The simplest and simplest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade can require up to 20 crests, based on the kind of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

The use of these currencies isn't that difficult, but the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level for all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests only have one use, so it's important to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which will only be able to benefit from the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
