Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests They're also particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a good deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in minutes.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and provide better cleaning. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robotic automatic vacuum and mop robot/mop combinations.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the competition. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot cleaner with mop that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
As with other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.
For bigger homes it's worth looking for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home using the app or via voice commands. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Also, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd think from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuum with mop vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it's more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
