How to Replace an audi tt key fob not working G28 Engine Speed Sensor
Charles the Humble Technician teaches you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located near the transmission's edge, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
Located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the position of the camshaft, in order to activate the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).
Testing can be a bit difficult because there are two connector pins, and they serve different purposes however the best method to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms if the sensor is in full operation. If you're having issues with this sensor, look for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.
2. Injectors
Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, i experienced an abrupt drop in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing at all. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs. Three were soaked with gazoline and the fourth was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine with no sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump out. The 4th one stays closed. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. i get 0ohm. I assume that the problem is in another location.
I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when it is unplugged, shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is zero.
I'm not sure what to do, but i believe that i've completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. Please let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that must know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, for example. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor audi advance key key (images.google.Cg) G28 to achieve this. If either of these go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner that could cause engine shut down.
A failing G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox, a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, and/or a misfire while in the gear. If you experience any of these problems, it is likely your sensor is deteriorating and requires replacement. They're cheap and easy to find, especially when they're an Bosch unit like ours. Alternatively, the GM version of this component is also a great option.
5. Tachometer
A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the cause of numerous problems in your vehicle.
